Needed Change

Bursts from miniguns and other automatic weapons missing when you have a 95% chance to hit is RIDICULOUS. A 20 round burst going at 1 person and then missing with every single shot at a 1/20 miss chance per shot is just AGGRAVATING (I was reminded of this aggravation when I was reading through an old post on the gameplay forums).

Flamethrowers, rocket explosions, and grenade bursts should NOT miss if they hit your square. It PISSED me off to NO END to see my rocket hit someone dead on, have the rocket explode on them, and then do nothing as if the rocket proceeded to enter some kind of transdimensional space mid-flight. If you get hit with a rocket, then it didn't fracking miss!

Well since the old animations didn't have dodging, ducking and diving options it would look like you'd hit when you hadn't. Since they won't be using the old graphics or engines presumably this won't be a problem.

Or they could just do away with combat animations entirely and just have something akin to the quick battle screen from JA2. With just players icons and dice rolls. :)

Those are largely just graphical limitations.

As for the machine gun missing, it is not ridiculous. Ever tried firing an AK47 at a van from a reasonable distance? A large majority of the bullets would miss, it's an inherent problem with machine guns if you burst for a while. The gun will never stay in a steady position, and bullets really do fly everywhere.

You have? Are you trying to tell us something, Sander?

That said, minigun delivers a bit more bullets per second than AK-47. It's reasonable to expect at least *one* would hit the enemy when you are standing twenty inches from him.

I also find it aggravating that lightsabers 4,000 years before Luke don't have the ability to remove limbs, despite their ability to be inserted into durasteel lockers.

Oh, wait, it's a game.

Now, as I've mentioned before about using guns on point-blank targets, chances are the enemy can knock aside the barrel or even hold it aside to prevent it from firing. Then there's the aspect of a minigun firing time, and perhaps they dodged aside before you could get it to full spin, but for certain the aiming on it would be like trying to shoot someone down with a gun that would be as unwieldy as a fire hose. That is why they are mounted, and soldiers who are trained with auto rifles are taught to fire in short, controlled bursts, for max effectively.

That is where real-life and game system representation both come into play. :)
