New computer, suggest some game ideas please.

First time out of the vault
Ok, so I finally got a decent system:

AMD 2.7 mhz
ATI 2400 HT 256 MB video
1 GB ram
Windows XP SP2

I have downloaded the Flight Sim X demo, cranked up the graphics and I am pleased with the performance given all the hype I have heard about the game.

Now I want to test the system with other games but am unsure of what to get.

I don't want to get anything that involves combat at the moment.

There are so many to choose from, I don't know where to start.

This is where you come in. Could I please get some suggestions on some decent games.

Thank you.....

You could probably run painkiller, and thief:deadly shadows, but painkiller is combat heavy so... I suggest Psychonauts!

Other then that I suggest getting more ram, and a new video card, possibly a new processor too. But if this is all you can afford than any game released before 2006 should be fine. I think you could probably run hell gate london(with minimum system requirements), possibly stalker, half life 2(including expansions) should run fine, guild wars, Neverwinter nights 2, Word of warcraft(if you enjoy grind), I don't really know anything about flight sims, but you should be fine with the rig you got, still i suggest a duo core or more ram.

Hope this helps.

Funny you should say that, I am planning on getting more ram, the board can run up to 4 GB. But the other stuff is a no-go.

I am not a hard-core gamer, no mmorpg. I usaully only spend maybe 1-2 hours a week on games. I want something with something with some decent graphics, that is all.

Seriously no, it's not just for gaming, a better videocard is always preferable, that one sucks way too much in everything. And what type of processor are we talking about? Athlon64? DualCore? That description isn't enough.

I am pretty sure it's an Athlon 64. As for the video card, I was told by the tech guy at Bcom here in town that it would be fine for "not-so hardcore" gaming. Nothing online, not into online games anyhow, where I don't need to worry about to much lagging the computer. I suppose I could upgrade to a different model as a last resort, but that is the last resort. My house needs some TLC and reno's first. So the budget is tight as far as comp. hardware goes.

Never trust them, they are underpaid, without real knowledge of what they are talking about, and fierce on emptying the stocks of crap material they have first (and 2400 is really, really crappy).

Try some hardware sites first, look around, like 3dguru and tom's hardware.

Figures, they see someone like me a mile away and say "YES- lets dump the crap stock on this guy."

Allthough it may be partially my fault, I tried to keep the video card under $100. But still, I told the guy I wanted something decent but not too extreme.

If computers were diesel powered I would know more I guess.

The more I get into PC games the more I say to myself, DAMN-I never should have sold my Playstation!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I'm trying to get into the business of being one of those underpaid techs (of course I'd prefer to be a non-underpaid one but hey, I'm realistic). I like to think I have some knowledge of computer stuff though. Not all techs are dumbasses who passed the A+ exam by studying cram books. Some, like me, passed it without studying much at all. >.>
