It Wandered In From the Wastes
So after a few playthroughs of New Vegas I've found that the story seems to be more a parallel of the Second Iraq War (03-08), than being a spiritual successor to Van Buren(FO3).
Camp McCarran:
The first piece that really struck me that much of a inspiration came from current events was the inclusion of the NCR's center of operations and logistics comes out of Camp McCarran, which is almost a direct parallel to BIAP, going so far as having the airport virtually empty outside of military/government and contract personnel.
NCR Embassy on the Strip:
The Embassy is a reflection of the Green Zone, in that though it's still under siege by the fiends and chaos lurks outside it's gates.
The attitude of NCR personnel towards the ongoing conflict in the region:
During many of the conversations with NCR personnel(both civilian and military alike), many of the responses mimic if not echo much of the commentary made both during and post conflict.
I could continue at length with many other examples, but I'm curious as to have others noticed this as well, or is it simply a coincidence related more to our current culture and not a direct allusion.
