New Vegas Mod Idea: Whitley Companion Mod

X12

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Yeah, so how about this: Whitley was able to escape Adams AFB, and was able to get to the Mojave, using a prototype Vertibird with a cloaking field and radar jammer (this was how he was able to avoid detection by CW BoS, CW Enclave, and later, NCR and Legion).

His Vertibird crashed near the Old Nuclear Test Site, which eventually caused him to turn into a ghoul by the radiation (this is so we can explain why he doesn't have the same voice). At first he was suicidal, but then realized this is karmic judgement and redemption. So he makes a vigil near the south most portion of the map, waiting for someone to find him.

Ok, on to the companion itself. Whitley is proficient in Repair, Science, and Energy Weapons. His Ranged weapon is a modified Enclave Plasma Pistol, that does twice the damage as a normal one. His Melee weapon is a Ripper. He also, after joining your party, puts on Enclave Shocktrooper Armor (He will give you one as well, this armor has the best DT, at 35). His perk, which I'm not sure what it will be named, will help you do 50% more damage against robots, and make you 50% more resistant to damage done by robots.

But that's not the best part. If you have both Whitley and ED-E in your party, it enhances both of them and their perks. ED-E and Whitley will now have increased DT, ED-E will be able to help you detect enemies from even farther away, cloaked enemies will have a blue highlight on them, making them even easier to kill, can repair your weapon to 50%, make more energy cells/ microfusion cells, add +4 DT, +8 beam damage, and VATs +10%. Whitley will give you 75% more damage against robots, and 75% damage resistance from robot attacks.

Also you have to be at least level 35 and have completed Lonesome Road for Whitley to become your companion.

So, is this a good idea? I would do it myself....but I lack a good computer.

I don't know why would he think he needs to redeemed himself, while vaultpedia tells me he actually tried to get humane treatment for test subjects (in his case, ED-E). He seemed to have principles.
Also, chances are the NCR knew nothing about east-coast Enclave, so he might just have flew during the events of Broken Steel, and since both the BoS and the Enclave were minding their own business, he got far enough before being detected. Later, he might have been recruited by the NCR as scientist, kind of the same (pretty dumb) way they recruited the guy who leads development on Helios One. He'd obviously had abandoned the Vertibird before entering NCR's territory, to avoid any suspicion. On the voice issue, he might as well get injured, if there's a vertibird crash, and lose his voice as a consequence (you know, some cuts on the larinx or something like that).

I didn't play with mods the newer Fallouts yet, but yeah, I think it might be good. I don't know what is required for modding, but I think it's kind of the same computer you'd need to play.

Well, by redemption, we only knew he treated robots humanely, we dont know how he felt about human testing on wastelanders.

Anyway, whats your opinion on his companion perk?

Personally I prefer gameplay or content tweaks. I don't feel like New Vegas would be improved by yet another companion. Unless he has good writing/quests.

I like the idea of sinergy between the two.
But as I said on another thread, for New Vegas and older Fallouts, I care more about the writing, since that's their strongest skill IMO. I prefer an interesting backstory/sidequest rather than the perks themselves.

EDIT: I'd totally play it if the whole redemption theme was used in his quests.

Yeah, would love to have a story with him.

Also im ok with changing things up. Like i know most people hate the Fallout 3 Enclave armor, so i could just have him wear "Armored Scientist Wear" (looks like the Enclave scientist clothes, but has armor on it similar to Armored Jumpsuits)
