I just want to say that I for one do not want Fallout 3 to be 3D. For the simple reason that I think it would ruin the great feel that the first two games had.

While I love the feel of old tile-based engines, the Fallout engine is a bit too old and slow for my tastes. It is also very limiting. For instance it took over 5000 images to draw all the poses with all the weapons and armor of the Chosen One alone. The slow load speeds were annoying, and quite frankly, when and if Fallout 3 comes out, I'm sure BIS will choose a 3D engine that will take on the Fallout feel the best. Imagine using the New Doom engine idSoftware is coming out with later on which supports true real-time lighting and polygon manipulation. Ever wanted to blow up the Bishop Casino in your own way? You can probably do it with the New Doom engine.

have you seen the possibilities in the red faction engine?and the tribes2 engine?awesome,man...

Hmmm. Well, I'm anything but an expert on 3D game engines. Or any game engines. But yeah, this info has... opened my eyes.

And yes, the load speeds were annoying.

Let's just hope BIS can capture the feel of the first two games with a 3D engine.

if the game was released today, i would say that commercialy it would be better to be 2d (with 16-bit color, of course).but in a two years limit i doubt there will be many 2d games...
i really like the feel of f1 and f2, don`t know what will happen with 3d, but i have to admit the possibilities are enormous
