Not currency, but...

First time out of the vault
Since it seems that there won't be a currency system, and not much ammunition, wouldn't it seem that bullets and such projectiles would become the basis of an economy? I mean, if you were a "gunfighter" it would probably be a hard trade off, but for melee fighters, you could easily make money off of the ammo you found. This may just be like a natural development inside the game, but I just thought it was interesting.

Bullets as lead thingies that go flying from the muzzle with a big bang, or cartridges? The first one just turns a gold coin into a lead (same if you'd be talking about empty brass which in my opinion is a much better candidate than gold or bottlecaps) slug, the second... No matter what people here say, ammunition takes quite some time and materials to make unless you're running a factory. But yeah, if you have to have functional items acting as currency bullets fit the description perfectly.

I agree completely. Bullets would become some kind of currency for meele/unarmed fighters, since if there aren't many bullets, their vaule should be high, therefore the PC could trade it in exchange for other goods like armor/stimpacks/tools. Where the long range PC would treasure them and use his most plentiful ammo for regular monsters and his good ammo (bozar ammo/vindicator mingun ammo/50 cal) for bosses or very hard ones (deathclaws/aliens.)
