NPC item carrying (Fallout 1)

i think i have a problem here. at some point after i visited the Glow (i think thats when it happened. if not, than just after that, when i got into the BoS), all my NPC's carrying capacity dropped to pretty much nothing. for example, Kitja can hold about 10lbs worth whereas she used to be able to hold around 100 or so. it seems like they all have radiation poisoning and its sapped their strength. im not sure though, because they sure arent losing any health (i was in the glow for a very long time...long enough to thoroughly explore the first 3 levels. i took enough RadX to protect myself before i went in, but was i supposed to give it to the NPCs as well?. i tried giving them radaway after i discovered this problem, but it goes in their inventory instead of being used.

edit: would installing the patch have anything to do with this? i think i mightve done that around this time as well...

any ideas?

I can explain about half of this, unfortunately not the actually useful part, though... What I CAN tell you is that NPCs are not effected by poison or radiation. You cannot use chems on them, I'm not sure they'll use them themselves if given the chance. I have no idea why your NPCs carrying capacity would drop but I think really that the NPCs don't really have a carry limit anyway, try "Selling" them items in the Barter menu (which never checks weight in FO1), using this method you should be able to pack them up with everything you could ever want them to carry.
