NPC stopped interacting with me!

Marcus, mutant sherrif of broken hills, just stopped communicating with me. He still fights and stuff but when I click on him to talk, nothing happens. The only interaction I have with him is when I steal from him and change stuff in his inventory. Does anyone know whats wrong and what can be done to get him back on line?
 
This happens sometimes with Marcus and Vic when they take a lot of damage. All you can do, really, is kill them. They aren't any use to you if you can't control them.
