NPCs and .233 Pistol

First time out of the vault
I tried to get either Vic or Cassidy to use the .233 Pistol, but neither will use it. I made sure their combat disposition was set correctly, they had ammo for the weapon, and didn't have other possible weapons in their inventory. What could be the problem? I'm using Killap's latest version of Fallout 2 restoration project.
 
Yes, the .233 pistol uses smg animations and neither of those npc's have animations for smg so they cannot use it. It's the same if you try to give Sulik a cattle prod.
 
Yeah, and that sucks too. It seems like a strange "feature", but I guess the animators just didn't have the time or the resources. You'd think a fan mod could be made to correct this flaw, kind of like how Killap's restoration project can make the NPC's visually change armor.
 
That would mean editing every single frame on every single angle for a particular model. It really is an extremely tedious chore... Yay spites.

Ok thanks. As for Sulik, he's always a melee fighter in my team, that's where he shines.

Believe me he "shines" incredibly fine with that .233 pistol too.
