NPCs not moving in Cites and Towns (Fallout2)

DevilAsh

First time out of the vault
This is weird. I have Vic and Sulik in my party and suddenly they stopped following me around town. They just stand at the entrance. I've tried leaving them and adding them to my party but they still won't move! I have the 1.2d patch installed. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you by any chance in Modoc? Give us some information on where you are and what you just did.

It happens in ALL the cities and towns...actually it happens EVERYWHERE. Even in the wastelands. I seem to remember this happening to me when the game first came out. Not sure heh. I'm downloading the Killap's patch and see what happens. Oh and they're not overweight and I've set them to stick to me like ugly heh. They still won't move.

This just started happening with me too. Everything was fine at first, now this. It doesn't matter what map I'm on or where I go. As soon as I go to a new map, all my npcs spawn with me, but they don't move anywhere. The only exception is if I get into combat near them, then they'll come and assist me. After combat ends, they'll go back to standing around like statues.

I'm using the 1.02 patch and I tried reinstalling, but that didn't help. And ideas anyone?

Well, other than having fooled around with Miria in Modoc, I can't think of a thing.

Hmm, I remember long ago this happened to me. So I shot them and went along with the game

In all seriousness, I can't think of any way that you can get this fixed, apart from loading a previous savegame.

THis is fucked up. Im having the same problem and I am bot willing to load a previous savegame or to shot my NPCs even new joined NPCs dont move...bullshit

How about some more information so we can actually help you?

Have you tried resetting the map, for instance?

I realize I'm late on this.

If your NPC that isn't working becomes involved in a non-player character dialogue encounter, they will begin working again. Vic talking to Valerie in Vault City is an example of this.

I just had the exact same problem. Seemed to happen after the Maria incident in Modoc for me as well. At least I'm late enough in the game where I won't miss my NPCs too much.

I had the same problem for awhile, luckily it seemed to work its way out.

I am not too sure what fixed it, but after I ran around alone for awhile, finished a few non critical mini quests and went into Modoc had the brahmin follow me around, I went to vault 13 grabbed the Geck, Then I rounded up all my NPCs went to San Fran, they started to work like new. So after they started to work I decided to treat them all to some Cat Nip down in New Reno. It startled me to find out Marcus could get it on. Let alone that he says that super mutants can reproduce, Imagine all that trouble of convincing the master they couldn't. :falloutonline: Damn Muties!

Both the problem and solution to this are known (as already stated in the thread, actually), so there's no real need to keep the topic alive unless someone gets the problem again. For you, the fix was probably seeing a certain cutscene in SF.

I've tried using the save game converter listed on this site to update my saved game after patching in hopes that it'll fix this issue, and I can't seem to make it work at all. I keeps stating that it cannot find the Fallout 2 save game directory no matter which directory I place it in.

Any Ideas?

Did you sleep with any of the Bishops?

I think you move your saved games to a new file and then use the save game converter, not sure though.

It was with Miria and then using the 'just giving her a physical' excuse. I've downloaded Killap's patch and applied that, trying it out again now.

Now the game simply won't load any saved games, it just crashes to a black screen. :p

Ummm...did you read the readme that comes with the patch? It shall answer this question of yours.

Ah, I see. I've been reading so many readmes lately I must have skipped over that part. Looks like I'm starting over yet again, but It'll be nice to play through the game with all the fixes from Killap's patch.

Thanks for the help guys. :D
