Nuclear shelters

Do you have any information about nuclear shelters (big ones). We (Trinity team) are working on shelters right now and we can't find any good materials about it. We're the most interested in technical data (how many people can live in that shelter, how long, size of shelters). We have done with small, private shelters, but now we want to work out the big ones, so if you have some information or you know any good links about shelters, let us know.

I've seen my fair share of fallout shelters during the war in Croatia. I was just a kid back then, but I remember a thing or two. First off, fallout shelters are nothing fancy, usually a series of large, white rooms. They have their own power generators and electric lighting. They have huge plastic water tanks and crates containing food rations. If you are working on a used fallout shelter, then I imagine it would have lots of blankets and sleeping bags lying around. I remember there were always armed men with us in the shelter, so don't forget to add a few guns and ammo crates. I don't know how many people could fit into one such shelter, but the one I'm talking about was used by people from several buildings, so imagine it can take in a few hundred people.

Aaargh didn't think of missile bases, that's probably what a large scale fallout shelter would look like.

But is it only temporary or for a long time. How long they could live in this shelter without going outside for some supplies? Is it possible that they could live in there for a year?

Well I am not sure if this will help you much but-

the Morrow Project, a pen and Pencil post-apoc game had some ideas on fallout shelter construction.

You might also look into some of the old soviet stuff on civic defense. They apparently were more into doing civil defense for large parts of their population than in the US.

FEMA might also have some materials.

Ummm... I dunno. I was 8 years old then, you know. But I don't think so many people could survive longer than a few months.

Guys, we have a few of these shelters in downtown Warsaw, I'm absolutely sure. I read an article in "Gazeta Stołeczna" about those fallout shelters a couple of months ago. If I find the thing lying somewhere in the cesspit of excess and sexual abuse that forms my bedroom, I'll let you know.

In any case, the shelters were transformed into other facilities, bought by companies and so on. I'm sure that the Ground Zero club is an old fallout shelter, I've been in it (although I hate clubs) and it's huge. I remember now that the city council wouldn't reveal more of the sites, because they could become *terrorist* targets.

Anyways, the Moscow subway, as far as I know, has an extremely large network of fallout/nuclear shelters...
