Various objects (barrels, building corners, etc.) should serve as cover during combat. The only way to do this would be to add a "cover" function in one of your combat skills.

Once the function is initiated, the object you clicked on to give cover will reduce your AC to whatever range would be appropiate.

This, in my mind, will change combat greatly. It'll actually add realism to combat. No longer will you have to stand out on the god damn open field in front of 6 highway-men holding hunting rifles while picking each off with a shotgun, plasma gun, or mini-gun.

Another thing, Now that cover would be used there's actually strategy involved in combat. Maybe this also means game balances would have to be made?(More damage, less HP, etc.)

they probably will do something like that in FO3... in FO3 they're going to use a 3D engine. course, i dont know about a "cover function"... i mean, it's going to be similar to FOT i would think... so, there would be no real need for a "cover function." instead, you'd just duck behind the barrel or tree or whatever... but, they did have that in FO2 though... remember the trees? i used them quite a few times to thwart an enemie's attack.

But to provide cover while being able to shoot at the same time? Sorry if I didn't make that clearly, as I always suck at writing.

One good example to take is the game Chain of Command, which provides NUMEROUS objects to give cover, while being able to shoot. you could download it at www.2am.com.

P.S. I signed up for The Order :)

The idea is on other games

The cover idea was on Jagged Alliance 2. You could hide behind baracades and the such. Your accuracy was pants if you wanted to shoot someone though. It was really used as a distraction method.

WHOA WHOA whoa whoa whoa...Fo3 is using a 3d engine?? you mean like...not like fo1 and fo2? DAMN...I liked that like...so much..its the essence of the game, the characteristic that was so unique that it made it stand out from the rest...and now they're just giving in to the 'quake' engine? for shame.....

*sigh*

It is not going to be a first person shooter. It will use the same 3/4 isometric view as the first two.

yes it is Doyle, yes it is.

But he didn't want it to be 3d. He liked the 2d artwork in a 2d background, or what he said was the unique characteristic of FO.

No

It is NOT going to be a first person game, that has already been stated MANY times. It will probably use a 3D engine, but it will keep the same perspective that the first two had.

oh damnit

I don't know why i wrote the subject line, I must've thought u wrote something else. I must have pressed submit before writing on how he knows its not going to be 1st person, he doesn't want it to be 3d.

Trees SUCK!

Those trees were so magnificent that i lost dozens of weapons under that F******* pixel mess, REMOVE TREES, they don't belong to pc-games! Trees are bad, okay?

And this is a joke(just to mention that that Administ won't put me down for being a pagan)...
