OCC - World War II RP

Warped314

First time out of the vault
Yep, thats right, I'd like to start a WWII roleplaying thread if that's cool with the mods and people.

I'll play DM, or a Battalion commander, giving a briefing to whomever wants to volunteer as a platoon leader. However many people join will determine how big the squad is, maybe there will be two squads but I really doubt it.

The ICC thread will start as soon as I have at least 5 people on board. From there it'll be breifing, and the fun begins. :)

So, anyone interested?

P.S. Post your character sheet here in the same fallout style. And your standard issue equipment. http://patriot.net/~jstevens/USMCLHU/equipment.html Plus an M1 garand, one player may choose to take a bazooka.

My feeling on that is that it has to be post-apocalyptic and/or fallout.

So World War 2 with a difference that you have actually led a "post-apocalypse" that would be cool.

Hum. Well I'm not sure what you're saying, but WWII wouldn't really fit in a post apocalypse setting at all, considering that the atom bomb was relatively weak compared to today's nuclear weapons and that it was developed near the end of WWII.

So could you change the topic to WWIII? :D

I think it would make things a little easier. Just need to change the storyline up a bit.

Hey Warped. Why not just get creative.

Lets say that World War 2 happens as it was supposed to but perhaps somewhere near the middle to end, when the Russians have turned the tide and are chasing the Germans, or perhaps after the Brits, Americans and Canadians have landed in Europe, the war becomes a three way affair- Facists v. Communist v. Democrats.

Production on nuclear weapons continues and the weapons are eventually used. The war becomes a stalemate. So the story could be 1958 and the Second World War continues, but as all sides have invested in atomic warfare, the war has accellerated.

You'd be using 1950s technology in a Post-apocalyptic world.

Anyway, it's just an idea.

Remember it is fiction so some creative license is allowed.

Yes, why not. There are games out there that build on a pretext that World War 2 didn't really end.

Use some of the pulp ideas of the 1950s to create a world in which World War 2 continued for another 15 years, including the use of weapons of mass destruction. You could set it up in Europe.

If you are going for World War 3, might as well use Fallout as the ideal.

:?

I'm not sure what the pulp ideas are for a long lasting WWII, but I could put together some campaigns.

I'll wait until anyone else responds, doesn't look like anyone is interested anyways.

I'd be interested to play but I think it needs a little more fleshing out. Will the weapons still be as your described in your earlier post? Armor? What are the major powers? How was Europe affected? Where were the nukes used if used at all? Etc.. Just some ideas.

I'm new to the RPing in the Fallout or PA universe, but still willing to learn. Hope to hear some more.

Alright.

Equipment is essentially the same from WWII, read my first post for that stuff.
The major powers are America, Britian, Germany, and Russia.
Russia has declared war on America and Britain by Stalin's orders. They launched a huge salvo of atom bombs, obliterating most of eastern Europe and parts of the western coast. Russia itself is a continent pockmarked by nuclear craters and radiated snowland, but the huge military eeks out an existance in underground bunkers.

Germany is a shadow of it's former self. Factories have moved underground and they have resorted to desperate measures, allowing their scientists access to horrible mutating chemicals, reanimating dead soldiers and creating musclebound super soldiers. Their Messerschmitt is now being produced in larger numbers, giving them an advantage in the air war. Unfortunately that is their only advantage.

America and Britain have been left relatively unscathed by the huge nuclear conflict. Japan was bombed out of existance years ago. Still, the looming threat of ICBM technology is in the near future. Military actions are mainly black ops, left to elite teams and precision bombing.

Resources are streched thin in all countries and as a result oil is hard to come by. The entire oil-producing middle east was destroyed by Russia, making sure that if they couldn't have it, no one would.

So players will probably be a joint team of americans and britains.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Alright thanks! Here are a few more questions that have come to mind:

What are America and Britain's current status, technologically speaking? If the Germans' only advantage is in the Air, how are the Americans, British, and Russians competing with their undead soldiers and supersoldiers? What disadvantages do these soldiers have? (if US/UK scientists have been able to discover any).

As most operations are black bag, will our squad be as such? Or will we ourselves have special abilities? How will this affect chargen?

If I think of any more, I'll post them. ;)

America and Britain are in vietnam war era technological status. The M16A1 is a relatively new weapon and the CAR-15 is what the PC's will probably be using. The M-14 and M-1 carbine are the infantry's most availiable weapons.

The german mutated soldiers are usually only seen deep in German territory, beyond artillery range and a nuclear no-man's-land. The disadvantages to those soldiers are a limited pool of people to subject to the mutations, as POWs or willing german soldiers are becoming harder to find.

The squad will be black ops. Otherwise it would be a boring grunt's life in some borderline bunker installation. I guess I could allow a character with psionic abilites which could merit another logical reason why the squad is given loftier goals. Everyone else is trained with the best and by the best. The psionic ability wouldn't really affect chargen, it would just give the character abilites from the psionic people in Fallout 1. Sorta like force powers from star wars. Mind tricks, manipulation and limited telekinesis.

This sounds great! Welsh and I can then have our characters standing around discussing what lessons we have learned from the World War...

When I can get 4 people willing to play and post at least once every week.

I've decided that I'll play the psion in the squad, for technical reasons. Whoever wants to volunteer for squad leader, make a note of it in your character sheet. I'll choose later on.

Edit: We will be able to accommodate people joining past when the story starts, so it won't be too limited.

Hum... If I am to join, I'll probably want a tactical role... Or maybe a scientist. Someone in Intelligence.

:D Sure it would be a cool idea, but what kind of Rules do apply to this RPG? And wouldn't it be better if you also created an opposite party that are real people too?

Dunno how many people you'll be able to scrounge up, Warped. Platoon-sized seems too hopeful.

You may have to settle upon just one squad, though that would be if you're lucky enough (or if most current active players on the board joins). If you do get a squad (which would be maybe 8 people), I'd suggest breaking it up into fireteams of four or even two people. See what membership will be like before taking my advice.
