Odd glitches in Fallout.

I recently purchased the original Fallout about a week ago, but I
did not get a chance to play it until last night. I knew something was up when the intro would not play (I would click the intro button, the screen would darken and then it would just go back to the menu.) Then while combating those pesky rats, I found that the text bar was horribly wrong. While in combat, the text box came up with some pretty wacky numbers! Apparently the 10mm pistol can deal 4323 points of damage! When I got to shady sands, none of the talking heads appeared! Only the text appeared! I would appreciate some help!

You sure you purchased it and didn't downloaded some rip from a random website? What you write tells me that the game can't find video and graphic files (probably also sound files) and has problems with the proto files. So if a new installation won't fix it... I have no idea.

I remember that there is still a Fallout 1 rip flying through the internet, which has no music, talking heads, videos, etc. One big gaming website even officially offered it for free to download a few years ago for a short time.
