Other than the cant see your ap cost when you move(they say it will be fixed) its realy realy realy fun. I know I said CTB is awesome but Ive been converted.

Another one sees the light

We should try to enlighten more people...
Apparently it's possible for a pro-CTB to convert!

RE: Another one sees the light

One thing I like about TB over CTB is that it makes crouching behind obstacles more important.

In TB, with Deadshot, I can crouch behind some sandbangs. I use 2AP to stand up, 4AP to fire, and the remaining 2AP to crouch back down.

In CTB, if someone tries to crouch to wait for APs to regenerate, just get about 4 or 5 units away from the croucher, set your guy to aggressive, and burst mode. You'll slaughter that guy when he starts to stand up.

Unless both people are willing to crouch and only stand to fire in CTB, the guy standing will always prevail.

RE: Another one sees the light

I wish there was a way to start combat without shooting someone or them shooting you, and I wish they had the right click like in Fallout 2

RE: Another one sees the light

Yeah, I really miss initiating combat myself also. Hopefully they'll be putting that in also.

RE: Another one sees the light

We will be adding the ability to start combat (ENTER key currently, but will eventually be re-mappable) to the next demo.

RE: Another one sees the light

Why not use the left click on the gun when not in combat to initiate it? That's how it worked in FO and FO2.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-01 AT 12:56PM (GMT)[p]I though the TB system really sucked in the demo, simply put: because I couldn't choose which squad member I wanted to, it was all sequenced, which I reeeally hate!

The TB system should be like Jagged Alliance and XCom, without the sequence thingie.

RE: Another one sees the light

You cant have that in FO cuase thats what the sequance is for and you get seqence from your agility, like in FO2 my seqence is 18 so I get a turn then Cassey and the bone in the nose guy then I get to go again then the enemy goes.

german reviewers opinion...

In the german review mentioned in the news section, the author says, that in his opinion you should forget the CTB (he calls it "senseless realtime-mode"), just because you don´t have enough time for good micro-management of all your squad-members.

Besides that, there´s not much more interesting written.

I thought, I let you know...

I'm a big fan of individual turn based. It's hard to find people to play with though. out of 8 attempted games, only one was finished. All the others people dropped after they realized that it was turn based even with "INDIVIDUAL TURN BASED ONLY" in all caps as my room name on Gamespy.

sigh. we need to start a password that will keep non-turn based people out of rooms since they don't read the titles anyway. Maybe a name tag for TBPA or something (turn-based player association)

That's not how I feel, but the attitude I've gotten from the people that join my room is always "turn-based sucks" or "you suck, why don't you play the REAL way" and so on. It's hard not to associate that maturity level with the CTB when everyone who joins my game and then drops out makes comments like this.

Personally I just don't like the click-fest that it ends up being if you take more than one character, and even with only one, you can't take proper advantage of cover. So it's just not for me, and that' why I'm glad they put both modes in. I didn't care much for online RTS games, and CTB plays just like that, but I've always loved turn-based, and I play tabletop wargames, so that's what I like.
