One question and one possible hidden NPC ally.

Hank228

First time out of the vault
I have a simple question to ask:

Is there a time limit to the game? If so, how long? (for the main quest I mean)

But this is not the real reason I posted:

Yesterday I was walking around Modoc and went down the well. I picked up all the money bags, and then went back up. After awhile I went and got the "find Johnny" quest. I waited for Lassie to go ahead and then went down the well since the rope was already there. I got Johnny's BB gun, brought it back to him and told him I was sorry, but Johnny was dead. He cried, but Lassie didn't stay. No, Lassie followed me. He never left me alone. Could Lassie possibly be a hidden NPC ally?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but nothing came up in search.

You have 13 years and the game will end (around year 2254). You were supposed to rescue johnny.

Oh, where do you find him then?

Also, what happens if you don't complete it in thirteen years?

Laddie (NOT Lassie... this name is a reference to another pop-culture Collie from a series of novels by Albert Payson Terhune. I had a Collie named Lad for years and I had to put up with people calling HIM "Lassie" all the time! The "Fallen down the well" thing, is, of course, a jab at the "Lassie" TV shows) is sort of an NPC in his coding, but he's not particularly useful since he wasn't coded for combat like Dogmeat, and has low HP and resistances.

However since he's still around, in most likeliness the kid is not dead... Dogs (especially the two Collies referenced by the character) tend to exhibit a sort of "sixth sense"... perhaps he's hanging around for a reason..........

If you care for a spoiler or two thousand, I can give you no better advice than to check out Per's guides over here: http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout2.html

At the end of the 13 years, the game ends unceremoniously; you will almost certainly never have an issue with that concern unless you play a bizarre game like a friend of mine did; he picked two levels of lifegiver and a low EN score, so he took forever to heal back his ridiculous hit point total, and on top of that he spent a considerable time driving about the desert to level up. I was surprised when he told me he ran out of time!
