We talk about the the role of islam for women a lot in my classes and have had some discussions on islam here. I thought some of you might be interested in hearing this.

I heard it on the radio yesterday. I think its basically about some Islamic, lesbian woman that advocates greater tolerance towards everyone. Of course that attitude isn't liked by fundamentalists who have issued many death threats to her.
 
yes basically. But she also takes the stance that Islamists don't question themselves or examine their own doctrine, and that by failing to do so, have undercut their own faith.

It's kind of interesting.

Surely you can see how a non-Muslim trying to use quotes out of the Koran can be biased...

It's just like me pointing out how Moses slept with pretty much every daughter and grand-daughter he had: it's "in the bible", yet nobody takes it seriously.

Seriously, stop taking interpretations of the Koran that match your dislike for it.

Have you learned NOTHING of the many many sites about Islam where the first thing it says equates to "Translations are false, because of the nature of the Arabic language and the nature of the Koran."??
One site I linked you(too lazy to link you again) had the entire Koran in THREE English translation, all of which differed greatly at almost every single point.
THAT is why you shouldn't try to quote the Islam without having multiple translation and/or a load of explanations ready. An Arabic speaker would also be nice.

Circassia chicks, are, btw, among the most attractive on the planet. The guiltiest I have ever been turend on is an "After" photo of a Circassian suicide bomber. And luckily enough, most of them speak Turkish.....
 
Translations CAN be biased but I agree with CC (Constip...) that in this case the meaning is similar enough to be trusted.

As for muslin people being attractive I have seen pics of arab guys so sexy that I would not mind if they took me away on a camel to a long trip to a distant oasis... *giggles*

Seriously, though, despite all that talk about liberation, a burka IS a comfortable cloth to wear. It does protect from the sun and heat of the desert and admit, guys: it is sexier to imagine what they look like under that than to see stupid brit spears videos where little is left to imagination.

Did you just honestly say that? That is one of the most offensive and ifnorant statements ever. Seriously.

While you are right in this case, in most cases, the interpretations CAN be very varied(as you've seen from what you've posted and KSM has posted), and basing opinions off one interpretation is just wrong.(This goes both ways).
