Hello fellow Fallout lovers.
It is I, the Klayhamn. After 5 months that I haven't visited NMA for the too depressing lack of Fallout related news, when suddenly I get this E-Mail about a new Fallout title.
I didn't start writing now to describe my feelings about the game too much, but I will just say I HATE anything which is not RPG, but I LOVE anything that is FALLOUT, or similar to fallout (i.e MAD MAX movie)
This odd combination of a SQUAD game, and Fallout, apparently is not a good choice, but on the other hand, it is the best choice we got until FO3 comes out. It's a nice way to still play fallout, without playing fallout. BESIDES the fact that it has A MULTIPLAYER option, which means we can all play Fallout (a certain type of it) together people! No to slow MBOARD communication, yes to a very-virtual fallout reality!
Anyhow, I really believe that a game is REALLY its content, and not its shell. Either strategy, squad, RPG or even FPS - playing in the FALLOUT universe, without a Fallout-plot, fallout weapons, fallout atmosphere - IS THE GAME. Of course that RPG rules, no game, in my opinion, can ever reach the richness and depth and fun out of a good RPG.
Fallout is unique.
There are tons of FANTASY games, in ALL variations, and tons of FANTASY books, but how many games are FALLOUT?
Strategy, RPG, FPS, TPS, Squad - if it is Fallout i'll buy them all.
It's like buying an X-FILES tshirt and posters, watching both the TV and big-screen of it...
Fallout is a universe, and although RPG is one of the most REALITY games (like in real life) it is still not real-life like, because a game MUST have some specific definition of its goals, the tools to achieve them, and content in the middle, unless its a super-game.
No game, for now, is - THE GAME OF LIFE
in which you can play a completely alternate reality and do EVERYTHING.
In fallout, u can't car race... u can't see from your own eyes, and for example, you can't decide to suddenly dance in the middle of a raid, until you will get killed.
You can do THIS, THIS THIS AND THIS...
So to EXAPAND possibilities, in the 21st century's game industry, what you do is make a game of the same universe, only of different type.
Not many do that, but i think it is only for the best.
It is not the same kind of entertainment and fun that i get from a good RPG fallout, but it another aspect of the Fallout universe , THE ONE WHICH MAKES FALLOUT WHAT IT IS.
This is the exact PLACE, Time, and type of things that my DREAM-GAME should be in.
A post-apocalyptic-futuristic-wasteland-retro-fashioned-"metalfull" RPG game.
Ummm... ok that's not what i wanted to talk about... but anyway - the online thing - which is what i wanted to talk bout:
Think how cool can it be! Wether we can play against eachother, or we can play co-op, this is COOL. Oh, and that's another thing:
To all the people who keep saying:
"if you want multiplayer go play ULTIMA or Diablo"
No.
The simple thing you fail to understand, and perhpas is also what makes me believe u are the same people who say "this is an abuse of the name Fallout" - is that the multiplayer requests were not because WE WANT TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER, but because we want to play FALLOUT WITH OTHER PEOPLE...
To be able to run around with your cool character, that so far only you knew and saw... and co-op or fight other cool characters. To meet the fallout community where we are worth to reside - the FALLOUT MULTIPLAYER.
Imagine that you didn't have internet. You had a browser, you could make sites yourself and see them ( SINGLE PLAYER), and u can even take sites from others on diskettes, and see them on your computer ( watching others play Fallout or playing with them, by going to their houses)... but what you lack is the 3rd dimension of your Windows Desktop... the INTERNET... to be able to see things that belong or were made by OTHERS...
This is why people travel the world, although you can have millions of pictures sent to you, or even MOVIES of ALL the locations.
This is the meaning of COMMUNITY.

And the only reason i want Multiplayer for FALLOUT, and not for another game, is because - I DONT PLAY OTHER GAMES, UNLESS THEY ARE FOR MY TASTE, OR UNLESS THEY ARE SIMILAR TO FALLOUT.
Wow, i can play TETRIS online too with others... i can also travel to INDIA AND NEW ZELAND... but i dont want to do that...
i want to travel to USA, to europe.
I want to play FALLOUT multiplayer.
Klayhamn is now off for designing NEW ISRAEL.
