[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-01 AT 09:04AM (GMT)[p]Sorry to bug you all again with beginner's questions, but I have basically worked up a character w/story, and I just need to know a few things...

1. What, on this board, is the standard format and protocal for introducing a new character? Do you do it on the forum, or in the post you will be participating in? What elements of character are you supposed to include? Looks? Personality? Backstory? Inventory items? Help me out here, I have seen it done many different ways, from rudimentary physical descriptions to complete dossiers including height, weight, psychological quirks, eye color, etc.

2. I know of, and am in wholehearted agreeance with, the general stigma associated with creating a god character. This leaves me with questions, thought, about "god posters". Just how much initiative/creative liscense is considered too much when it comes to inventing new items/weapons, story elements, and making inferences/judgements about the Fallout universe? (I know that last one encompasses a lot, so for example, let's say that there is a post involving ghouls. In the general Fallout discussion forum, True Raven and I have been developing a theory that ghoul mutations are not due entirely to radiation as is the general theory, but instead due mainly to the FEV or FEV II virus. Or, a more storyline-invasive one would be a theory that I put out that the water chip in V13 was never broken, and it was a scheme by the Overseer. Would posting either of these in a popular RP thread which was not created by me be overstepping any boundaries?)

3. Character control. I have noticed that some people just post from the p.o.v. of their character. Others post from the p.o.v. of several characters, making the characters of others perform simple speech and actions. First of all, is one generally accepted over the other? And, if not, what (short of killing a character) is considered excersising too much control? I mean, I know that only a character's main controller/creator can make major decisions about their character's actions or personas, but aside from that what would be the limit for others concerning non-exclusive characer control?

Well, sorry for the long-winded interrogation, but I only asked questions about issues that I noted more than one possible answer to on the board, and only so that I wouldn't step on anyone's toes when I jumped into a post (which I hope to do soon...)

(After editing)

As a matter of fact, in regards to question 1, if no one answers this soon (within a day), I may just post my character in the forum so that I'll have the freedom to get into whatever post I choose (it will most likely be, of course, The Battle)

1)Actually not much of "basic format" or such alike. But you can check out a post at page 2 ot this board and that should serve quite well.....and backstory, for myself, I think it's needed~~~

2)Well for the god like problem.......just make sure you don't be like the guyz in the movie: "The Matrix"...haha
For story lines and terms...I guess V13 water chip hadn't broken is too much(if it happens then ther will be NO Fallout!!)~~~~For the gouhl mutation me myself had thought of something like that:

The US had always wanted to have a weapon that allows them to take cities without damaging it, at a cheap price. They had finally success in making the M.A.V.(Metabolism altering virus). The syntompts, at first, is that the victim will loss the ability to heal wounds, and the skin of the victim will start to dry up and eventually falls off. This will bring the loss of immunity of victim towards common diseases, and eventually, the victim will die because of those common disease. The virus hadn't been fast enough to get into the war because of the falling of the bombs. After the war, some people which had accuired a heavy amount of radition had came into contact with the virus. The effects of the virus altered when in contact with such people, and turned them into ghouls.

3)Well in my opinion, don't make someone's char to do some "big actions".....like calling someone to

Hey Yamu, I remember you are an expert of Fallout backstories. Can you tell me that why the hell that war started?

Basically, the world had gone to hell in a handbasket. The global economy was a wreck, overcrowding and pollution had reached a boiling point, and the world's reserves of the once common substances that had powered everyday life: fossil fuels and fissionable materials (i.e. uranium) were almost entirely drained. Prices for fossil fuels were driven sky-high.

As you can imagine, relations were tenuous in such a world. The search was on for previously undiscovered repositories of important resources, especially fossil fuels, and many countries engaged in minor skirmishses over this. In fact, the entire european commonwealth disolved over issues that arose from this crisis.

Some time before the start of the war (I forget exactly when because my Fallout 2 archives were thrown into shambles by a computer crash awhile back), the last great deposit of oil was discovered somewhere out in the Pacific ocean. By law, whoever first drills an oil well has entitlement to it, so the race among countries to construct a deep-sea drilling outfit was on.
The two main contenders were China and the United States. Things were going relatively smoothly, albeit frantically, for both coutries' construction projects, until, when in the final stages of construction, something went wrong with China's rig. Of course, this meant that the Americans were the first to tap the oil well. America then annexed Canada, making them an "offer they couldn't refuse": if Canada would accept American control, they would be entitled to a percentage of the petrolem resources from the rig. (Incidentally, the rig that America constructed to tap the well is the Enclave rig in FO2)

The accident at the construction site, and subsequent failure of China's rig operation, had the Chinese government crying foul. They claimed that the American government had sabatoged(sp.?) their project in order to reach the oil deposit first. Of course, the allegations were denied, and this and other worldwide tensions continued to mount (among them a worldwide dissatisfaction with the world trade situation)

(Keep in mind that, although these events played a central role in he onset of the war, they weren't the only factors in play. It's kind of like- using the only example I know and hoping that you study a little American history in Chinese schools- the American civil war. There were a number of social, political, and governmental factors behind that war, but most people just attribute it to the central cause of slavery.)

Sometime during this whole mess, the Chinese government invaded the state of Alaska, presumably either because it was known to be resource-rich in the past, or because it was geographically on of the closest American locations to China. Either way, it was considered an openly hostile act, and an onset of hostilities. In 2077, war was declared. The nuclear volleys lasted less than two hours, and when the dust cleared civilization had been blown off the face of the earth.

**********

Sorry about that. It's incomplete, it lacks dates and many key facts, and I'm almost certain that some of the chronology is off. Still, I gave you what I could off the top of my head. I'll probably post something more detailed (and more accurate) about it in the general Fallout discussion forum when I get my FO2 archives back up.

Hey, Yamster, have you checked out falloutrpg.vault13.net yet?

And so am I

1) The more specific the better. If you can get it down to what is his favorite brand of cereal, then you've got your character down real good.

2)generally speaking, whoever is thought to be the leader of the thread, will reveal major nuances and theories he or she has. Other than that, you can add as many super weapons on this board as you want.

3)In this instance, seems most small actions, and on rare occasions major events. If the event is something that nobody can get right if they just randomly roleplay, then do it. But first, it is adviseable to get a consensus.

I saw it. Looks a mite proffessional for a tyro such as myself, and it was so much more than satisfactory, but the reason I was left with so many questions is the fact that this board and that board are utterly different, not just superficially, but on several fundamental levels. Things go on there that are uncharacteristic for here, things go on here that just wouldn't fly there, and even the systems of roleplaying are different in certain ways.

Plus, half of this board isn't down for repairs :-)
