Optimizing Broken Hills Power

First time out of the vault
I was wondering, in the past I have been able to get Eric the ghoul his extra power and optimize the broken hills power grid for extra xp at the same time, but in my last game I cant do it. I was wondering what exactly you need to do to trigger the extra xp while fiddling with the controls - science level, quest order, do you need to talk to someone about a power problem, I've talked to brian alot and no joy.Help me vault dwellers!
 
I had the same problem, I think you get one chance at it and if you stuff it up thats it. Im not sure sorry, just be careful what you say to the ghoul (try loading an older save)
 
thanks guys turns out hidden in per jorners file (which i had before,but im a moron) you have to get a critical success on the computer to optimize as well,my crit rate was 8% so it took a few tries.Thanks for all the info, i wish you guys many happy alien blaster encounters.
