Over There is a new series coming on the FX Network in July about the current conflict in Iraq. It revolves around a squad of soldiers in the thick of the war.

I think this looks like it will be really good, but the question is - is it the right time for this? I mean, we're still in the middle of the conflict, and kids are still over there dying and fighting. Is it really the right time for a fictional television show based on a very sad and very current reality?

Of course it's time, as long as the show feeds people the "Glorious Act Of Iraqui Liberation By The American Army" show. Occasionally showing the Glorious Death of some soldier, of course.

We want you so angry, foaming from the mouth, in your living room. Manipulated news, movies, TV serials, soldiers' internet blogs, recruiting officers in high-schools. Everything, saturated by the military. Let your whole life revolve around sports, act tough, don't get too smart. So you can... Enlist! Avenge your brethren, fallen in the War On Terror!

So we can send everybody to the Righteous War.

    Somewhere else.

Actually, knowing FX programming, the show will probably be quite the opposite.

Damn, for some reason, I read FOX, not FX.

It's natural you'd make that mistake. They're both shitty channels.

I am only watching the Shield on FX, but that's pretty good. I expect this will be rather good. Glad it's on a cable station though- that allows it to be more edgy.

FOX owns FX. FX is the edgier, cable version of FOX.

FX I think is a better channel than FOX, but FOX does have Family Guy so yea...

Over There looks like it will be a pretty good series. And that Oil Storm show was pretty good. Everybody accuses Fox of being extremely right winged, but they got it all wrong. That's just Fox NEWS that is like that. Oil Storm is a very left wing approving movie. If Fox was as right wing as people thought, they wouldn't have let that air. Now when it comes to stuff like O'Reilly Factor on the other hand, there's its right-wingedness for ya!

I'm looking forward to it too. Irreverence is good. Although I find the whole Murdoch (Rupert that is) empire schizophrenic. One the one hand you've got right wing Fox news. One the other is FX, full of anti-establishment liberalistic blood and guts shows (imo wierd opinion at least). The man's either a genius or certifiable. Prolly both.

Premier was pretty good. I think it'll take one or two more episodes for the series to really pick up and go somewhere. The pilot/first episode didn't give the series much of a direction, but at least it gave us a good handle on the characters.

Largely business I expect. He has some of the best lefty, anti-government writers in largely conservative papers for example. Then he can net all the intellectuals with one paper, whatever their political persuasion and provide lowbrow news in other papers.

So I watched my Tivo'd copy of it. Nice, but not terribly impressive. I'd be much more impressed if they had the budget to do city fighting. That and the camera angles, or lack thereof, showed the limits of their production.

But good start. I hope its not just a bunch of cheesy fighting though, and delves into the soldier's lives alot deeper than the pilot would indicate. But I'm putting it on my weekly recording schedule tho, which is saying something.

    Is anyone still watching?

I think there are some pretty big flaws in the film, but I have been enjoying the show as episodes continue and characters become clearer.

It could be better (it ain't Full Metal Jacket), but I haven't given up on it yet.

First episode was probably the weakest.
