Patch Problems

Silus

First time out of the vault
Hey,

Having recently gotten my hands on Fallout 2, I eagerly installed the game ( and then the UK official patch ). However, now whenever I try to boot up the game I get an Error message that reads "Running Fallout 2 Requires the CD!" even though the disk is in the machine. In fact, even trying to RUN the game directly from the disk incurs this error!

Here's the steps I followed when installing the patch ( who knows - could've done something wrong ;) ):

1) Downloaded patch from http://www.svatopluk.com/fallout/download/f2patch.stm
2) Ran the patch ( winzip ) and unzipped it into the suggested directory - c:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2
3) Tried to run Fallout 2 - et voila! Error message :(

Any help is much appreciated. I've tried searching the web for this probelm, but can't seem to find it ( annoyingly ), and my browser keeps timing out whilst using the search function on this forum. So, apologies in advance if this problem as already been covered.

Dunno if it'll help, but my machine MORE than meets the required specs for this program ;) OS Windows XP.

Thanks in advance,

Silus.

Install the patch for your version (eg. UK for UK, US for US etc)

Such a simple thing... What can I say - I've been up since 3am ;) Thanks, mate. US patch installed, working fine.

Silus.

So if I get this right, installing the UK patch over the US version means the game will not run at all? I never heard about that before.

No, the patch he installed carried CD protection while the US version doesn't. Since it was the UK version, it didn't recognize the US CD in the drive as a valid Fallout 2 cd.
