Patch000.dat, Again...

Dagger

First time out of the vault
I've installed Fallout 2 onto steam, patched with with the Restoration pack, The "official" patch and still I see no Patch000.dat.

FaME needs me to move Patch000.dat to a Patches folder so my Armor mod can work. The Readme in the armor mod provides 0 help too. All of the threads of this have provided little help, giving me the feeling that they're just telling you in a long overly drawn out page; "You're screwed."

So what am I supposed to do about this Patch000.dat I need to move? I want my armor.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
FaME? Your Armor mod?
???

Anyway, for there to be a patch000.dat you need to first install an official patch. But as the RP and the unofficial patch don't work with patch000.dat the installer for those mods will remove it (iirc).
Most mods don't want you to have a patch000.dat that's why you move or delete it. Are you sure you need it at all?

Also, DO NOT install the official patch on top of the Restoration Project, you will break it.

Well, nothing is broken it seems. FAME wont run without moving Patch000.dat to the Patches folder, and FAME is the only tool that runs mods for Fallout 2 correctly (Or so I've heard)

FAME is a super old tool. Thing is, patch000.dat is not used anymore nowadays. Either the master.dat was patched or mods like the RP are using all files from the old patches anyway. Of course, another variant would be that you are running a unpatched version of Fo2, in this case, the patch000.dat doesn't exist either.

You don't need FAME to run the mod. But you won't be able to use more than one mod at a time, simply because the file structure of the game doesn't allow it (this would produce conflicts most of the time).

This is the only mod I've installed before. It's simply a .dat file named frankhorriganarmor.dat

If I dont need FAME, then where do I put this to make it run? There's several other .dat folders in the Fallout 2 Directory.

Rename it to patch000.dat and it should work. :>

Just simply rename it to Patch000.dat and it'll just work? No tools needed?
When in doubt, just try it and see what happens. :)
Good news!

Turns out: It didn't work and that was the complete opposite of Good news. I cant find the armor anywhere in Klamath, containers or on the floor.

You could use the DatExplorer to extract the *.dat file, then move the files to the /data/ folder. If it still doesn't work after that, something else is wrong.

Btw. if you visited Klamath before, the stuff won't show up in any case.

Well I have concluded that the mod is broken. So much for Frank Horrigan armor.

I did as you said, and now the game gives me a save error when going into the Klamath wooded area. I can still go through however, but when I return into Klamath the game with give a memory issue and crash.

Does anyone here know how to create an armor with it's own sprites? I'd appreciate it.

You need to set the 00000532.pro file to read only or the game will delete it. That could be your crashing problem.
But that armor mod is not 100% compatible with the RP anyway, just saying.
