First time out of the vault
hopefully this is the right place to post this...

putting together my cosplay outfit for my vault character there's one thing that's missing and that is the trust PipBoy.... i've been googling and YT-ing my a$$ off trying to find a way of making one EASILY (Im on a budget, i earn very little) my idea is to make something my iphone4 will clip into (I have the atomic clock app....works fabby) but so far everyone is buying resin moulds and casts and i dont have $50 to spend on a cast...

any ideas?

Duct-tape + iphone = good 'nuff
Honestly though, an I-phone, yet you make little money. Oh American decadence, I weep at ye.

i'm english, and i make JUST enough to cover my iphone payments. the phone itself was free but i pay £37 a month for the bill.

If you're still working on it, I'm working out a design for one myself.

I'm using 3" ABS pipe as the largest section of the wrist. You might be able to use a combination of ABS and PVC pipe/couplers to get the approximate shape.
I'll probably cut it down the middle and use nylon strap as a hinge/closure.

Next, I'm going to cut the computer terminal out of extruded styrene(Insulation foam), cut out the computer cavity and spaces for any electronics.
I'm going to cover the outside in heat form plastic (Wonderflex plastic) Though you might be able to cover it in sections cut from sheet styrene and glue them in place carefully.
You may need to fill some gaps or spots with something like a Bondo spot filler putty.

Make any raised panels out of styrene sheet, then stick the whole fixture onto the wrist section.
You can get a special kind of primer for auto detailing called a 'High build' or minor scratch filling primer. Mine's called Dupli-color.
Once it's primed, paint it the base colour and dry-brush a dark metal colour onto the raised areas.
Then you can start adding details like the Geiger counter, dials, lights, etc.
For a screen, I'm going to see if I can find a small Freznel lens, or try very carefully to cut a dollar store page magnifier.
(Or make a frame to hold your Iphone in it?)

Lots of this will be trial and error.
I recently had to make a portal gun prop which used a lot of the same materials and techniques.
That's the other problem, is getting these materials in small quantities. I usually buy in bulk because I know I'm going to have use for it.
Insulation foam only comes in large sheets, or you'll pay a lot for a small amount from a craft store.
The only economical choice for the Wonderflex plastic was the largest sheet available which cost me $100. But if you do a lot of cosplay, it would probably be worth it.

My Advice? make a PipBoy 2000 rather than that load of Dosh that is 3k

it come sin tow flavores too so you can make the one you prefer, since PipBoy2000 Classic is handheld, and 2000+ is wrist mounted.
