Please help: major screw up

Techretard

First time out of the vault
Ok - I haven't ever done anything as retarded this before, but I made my mistake while reading the posts here trying to get a patch to work, so I figured, what the heck, you folks might know of a fix.

I was in my Fallout2 directory and was looking to open the config file with notepad. I had the browser tagged to list, and I was paying no attention whatsoever and clicked the master.dat file too and, heh, actually told the machine to open that one with notepad as well.

I saw what I did immediatly but it was too late to stop it, and now
Fallout won't play at all. It's changed the way my computer reads all files of that type, including off the disc itself. Is there a way to go back, or am I hosed? I don't know if this is a minor or major problem, and don't know how to change it back. I only use this particular machine for gaming, so it isn't a big deal to restore the thing, but I was hoping there was another way. Sigh, it's been one of those days-

bring up file explorer:

Tools -> Folder Options -> 'File Types' tab

find the DAT file type and change the app it uses (or none)

Edit -

Thank you for your help. I just deleted it in that menu and it seemed to fix itself. Appreciate it :)
