Don't think anyones created a thread about this.

Post any good post something-apocalypse books here

ill start

Metal Fatigue - Sean Williams

I never really liked Dark Tower. I mean, the first book was pretty damn cool but the rest... *ugh*

Gosh there are so many-

One that comes to mind is
Niven and Pournelle, Lucifer's Hammer, about a comet that hits the earth and what happens.

James Kunetka and Whitley Streiber, War Day, in which they travel across the US a few years after a nuclear war.

Robert Mccammon did Swan's Song- very much like the Stand, to be honest. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...002-1094360-7475225?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

There is more but I can't think of any others at the moment.

"A Canticle For Leibowitz", Walter Miller. Great, great book, and you can tell that FO took a lot of inspiration from it.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. After many nuclear wars, a quest against the norms of the past creates a real utopian society....or is it? Ta da daaaa.

I've just wrote one, but I'm still getting it ready for an agent.

What do I like? 'Alas Babylon' wasn't bad by Pat Frank. I loved 'The Mist' by Stephen King, and 'The Stand' of course. I read the McCammon book Swan Song, not bad. Lucifer's Hammer was good. I've almost picked up that 'Canticle' book several times, but could never convince myself. I will now.
Welsh if you can think of more please post them. I haven't read anything good in this genre for a while.
I haven't heard of Blood Crazy or Metal Fatigue, but I'll check them out.

I agree, easilly the best post apocalyptic book ive read, and Ive read just about every book you guys have posted..
stephen king and the stand can kiss my ass...

erm......... One i read when i was younger was 'Brother in the land' by Robert Swindell - Made for a teen but Very well written.Maybe a little short however......

The Postman was a book before it became a movie and as a book it's quite different.

Not sure if the book for Blade Runner would qualify. It seems more of a distopia novel than a post-apocalyptic one. Also A Boy and his Dog as a story before it became a film. Same with Planet of the Apes or Day of the Triffids. Don't forget On the Beach by Nevil Shute.

I have also been thinking of picking up '48 by James Herbert but am not sure how good it is.

I loved Herbert's Rat series. The last is a post-apocalpytic book which takes place shortly after London gets nuked.

For literature you might try
Cat's Cradle and Galapagos by Vonnegut.

Frank Herbert wrote The White Plague- in which a plague makes women barren. That theme comes up against in Margaret Atwood's A Handmaiden's Tale.

Has anyone read Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman?

Check on this web site for a list of post-apoc reads-

I read that a long time ago, very good book. If you've never heard of Herbert you need to get the Dune books right away.

Another good post-apoc book is "Dr. Bloodmoney" by Philip Dick. I don't think I can descibe it very well so I won't, but it's worth reading.

It's both. It's probably best described as semi-cyberpunk world after a massive nuclear holocaust and massive immigrations off Earth. A great book, by the way.

Galapogos is post-apoc?

Cat's Cradle barely qualififies, as only the last 30 or so pages can be described as post apoc.

That Herbert book sounds interesting. O, BTW, Handmaiden is distopian, as the rest of the world is the same, and there are still functional governments in the area.
