Potential fix for widespread, game breaking bug

I have this issue as well. Anytime I want to fight multiple people outside in the Mojave Wasteland and begin to fight in close range, my FPS lags and I get owned.

I want to try that fix, but I just downloaded a 250MB patch via Steam, so I am going to see how that plays out first.

Can't get that fix to work, I still have a horrid framrate when meeting more than one NPC. Am I supposed to put that file in my main game folder, or some folder in /documents ?

Try to install DX9 and 11 first, and the latest graphics card drivers. My upgrade to the latest NVidia drivers resulted in having New Vegas and Fallout 3 as the most stable and smooth games in my hard drive in months...

It's the one that has the hard.ini file, IIRC (which i think is the main game folder).

The d3d9.dll file should go into "A:\XYZ\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\" where A is usually "C" and XYZ is usually "Program Files" or, for 64-bit users, "Program Files (x86)."

When you do this, make sure New Vegas is closed. When you open the launcher again, it will redetected your video settings and tone them down because the file is hacked to make the game think you are using a GeForce 7900, which is used to force DX9 mode (over DX10/11). You should be able to play properly now, even if you modify the graphic settings.

Thanks, I got it to work now.

First I tried the file in my windows-dir, but that did nothing.
Then I downloaded that file from the nexus, and it tells me I have that card you mention - and now it works like a charm.
I can play on ultra, even with my 4 year old senile pc!
