Is there a mod out there that gets rid of the helmet on power armor (both t51 and advanced) that also works with the restoration mods extra character hair styles?

I would be in favor of this! —but only if it came with a sensible reduction in armor class; for the obvious lack of wearing the helmet.

As I understand it... because of Fallout's use of sprites (it is a 2D game), a removable helmet mod would necessitate a full copy of the PA suit sprite set—twice; one for male, another for female. That means a copy of the armor for each possible weapon (class) that the PC can equip; for both sexes.
*That is unless there is some interesting script-fu or new trick made possible with the ddraw library wrapper.

There is an old mod by Josan12. It does that you only wear your helmet when in combat and also has a pretty good animation.
Similar to Goris' animation. Of course, this eliminates the need for adjustments for the individual animations and the blue hood means it also works for women.

oh yeah that was me on reddit. I do wish that the hood wasnt a thing on the armor but it works either way.
It would also be cool with some tribals that wear just the helmet and thus have better head protection. Like that classic loading screen!
