Problem installing

First time out of the vault
Hello guys i'm new here and searched trough the forum but didn't find the answer for my question.

When i try to install the message "failure initializing input devices" appear. I already tried the manual installation but it didn't work as well.
There it says to copy the "data" folder, but in this folders there's only a folder named "sound" so i'm quite suspicious that my fallout 2 copy is missing folders...

Also tried installing the patches and everything.

Do somebody know how i can install the game (i'm using windows xp with SP2)?

cheers

The data folder isn't supposed to contain anything other than the sound folder.
Just follow the manual installation instructions instead of questioning it when you find something you *think* is incorrect.

Well, thank you for your cordiality. Your kindness and sympathy touched me.

But even with your tolerant explanation I managed to solve the problem and I think you might add this to your troubleshooting page, since I searched trough other forums and could see the it's a common problem.
The thing that I did was pass the AVG anti-spyware it found some traces and after cleaning it the message of "failure initializing input devices" disappeared. Before using the AVG I used the Spybot S&D but it wasn't enough.

I hope that my help should help other people, and remember that not everybody might not be as wise as you are. :?

I'm not sure I follow this exactly, but you're recommending that we note down that people with spyware on their computers that cause random malfunctions in games should make sure they get rid of their spyware?

Per, that's a likely story. I really think you need to look before you leap before making such outlandish comments; "remove spyware which causes your computer to malfunction before playing games", indeed.

Ehm, that's not the point. We can't jot down every contingency in the sticky threads, and we're not going to jot down 'Yeah, make sure your PC isn't infected with anything' since that's supposed to be very basic knowledge.
Furthermore, just 'there's this spyware and it fucked me over' is useless as help, since it is completely generic.

Man, I really did try to put obvious sarcasm into that post...Fuck the internet.

Here's what it should read.

1. Install all components.
2. Plug in your computer.
3. Plug in peripherals.
4. Turn on computer.
5. Install BIOS.
6. Install OS.
8. DON'T install viruses.
9. Run OS.
10. Install game.
11. Run game.

Well.. Whatever... Just trying to help, and made a sugestion because I read in other places people arguing the same problem.
