Problem w/ DL's

First time out of the vault
I have downloaded several lacation mods, and they don't work. They are showing as a different icon or shortcut. They look like a gold CD with a blue arrow, labeled Video CD Movie. How do I get them to the correct format so that I can use them. I have tried re-downloading them, but that didn't work.

Read about file formats? Don't judge them by icons made by the O Mighty Bill :)

I guess you something like Winzip (go figure where you can find it, I use Linux and don't have to search obscure webpages to get basic programs***Sorry, I couldn't resist, I know, I am a Linux zealot :-D But I'm extremely tired after spending almost 14 hours at school ***). Then you will need to copy unpacked files to correct locations (which aren't usually found by shouting "OMG DIS DOSNT WORK WHERE I COPY THEM?" in the forum but by usually reading included file readme.txt).

They aren't exe files.
You have to copy them to Fallout directory.

The DAT extension must have been registered by a video player in your system (DAT is also an extension for a type of movie file)

Ordinarily you should rename the file to PATCH000.DAT and place it in your Fallout directory, or just copy it to the Fallout directory use a tool such as ModRunner (see downloads)
