Problem with Install

Hey guys, recently I'd been thinking of replaying Fallout. Imagine my dismay, when in the last 5% of the install, it says there's a problem with master.dat.

I tried to manually copy it across, but that stuffed up in the last 25 seconds, so I'm guessing it's just the CD.

Can anyone tell me:

Best way to clean a CD and
If it doesn't work after that, is the CD useless? (in terms of getting a replacement)

This exact thing happened to me when I had just got the game, I had a big scratch and critter.dat was corrupt as a result. I just got a $10 CD-cleaning kit that comes with white fluid in a little bottle and cleaning pads to rub it into the CD. After I used it, the CD worked fine.

And who ever said that backing up your CDs was a stupid idea...

Two weeks ago I left my Fallout CD out UPSIDE DOWN on my dresser and went to school. When I came home, I popped the CD in and nothing happened. Then I took the CD out and saw that the bottom end had changed color. At that point I cried and cried, but then I instantly remembered that I had copied my CD for backup purposes a week before the event. I quickly grabbed the BACKUP cd and MADE ANOTHER BACKUP into it's place. I still have my warped Fallout CD somewhere in my room.
