Problems with Fallout 1 and XP

I have repeatedly tried to get fallout to work on windows xp and so far the game refuses to work. When I start a new game everything appears to be fine. However when I engage in combat the game for some reason crashes when the enemy scores a hit. Or if the game doesnt crash right away when the enemy scores a hit then it doesnt say anything for example instead of say "Rat does 10 hp of damage." it says this "." thats it a period. almost like the game is not able to calculate damage. Also I cannot uninstall the game. everytime I try to uninstall I get the following message "Uninstall could not open or cannot use following log file, 'C:\Program files\Interplay\Fallout\uninst.log'." Right now I have the game installed as a Huge setup so I cant be that. Fallout is my favorite RPG on the computer and I havent been able to play it since I got Windows XP over a year ago. So if anyone can help PLEASE reply!!!

Just tell em to kick their computer as hard as possible, that's what I do.

Believe me I have fiddled with the compatability options about a hundered times. doesnt seem to do much, but give me a headache!

Are you using a legal copy of the game?

Man, follow the instructions at

http://www.nma-fallout.com/fallout1/articles/install.shtml

but change your install path to something like c:\program files\games\fallout\

if you follow them exactly it should work.. it worked for me at least... if it ISNT working, then check if your CD is scratched, that cuases corrupt files, if this is so... then try buying the game again, if you can find it its pretty cheap, and then follow the instructions again.

Hmm...i've got the same problem, but i already read the walkthrough for installing Fallout 1 under XP...I followed the instruction but when I start Fallout, I saw the loading-picture and after a few seconds I return to XP....

Please help me!
