PROBLEMS....

Robert Czarwolski

It Wandered In From the Wastes
well, i was trying, with no results, add new critters frm`s and make the Mapper `librarian=1` work... i`ve used the NMA tutorials, but they doesen`t seem to work, can anybody help me, please?

Well, lotta stuff which can go wrong here...
Please state the exact procedure you followed.
Can the mapper read the new graphics? If it doesn't, then remember to edit the .LST file in art/critters folder. If the .Frms are fwandyaa, fwandyab and so on just add fwandy... This applies to *all* critters .FRMs.
Can you add new protos and actually see them when you restart the mapper? If you can't then make sure you have a Fallout2 folder at root level, i.e. if your hard drive is c: then you'll see a Fallout2 folder near your Program Files one and so on.
A common mistake when starting to edit/add new protos: there's a number of folder that can't be on read only when you tinker with protos. When in this state you can safely run the mapper but *not* the game. The game engine deletes protos which aren't set on read only.
This is what comes to my mind right here on the spot. If your trouble is a different one, then please state it, we'll help the best we can.
All the best,
Sirren.

1 i`ve picked up wild_querty critters frm`s packs, so.....
2 Yes, i`ve atualizated the critters lst.
3 No problem with substituting protos if not read only, because i run the mapper from a diferent location (i`ve `2` fallouts on my pc, 1 is the game and the other is the mapper- i copy\paste mapper files in the game directory and the opposite.....)
4 The librarian=1 config doesen`t seem to work because i can`t create or modify protos ( message- Can`t save protos from here)
5 No, i don`t have pach000.dat in my fallout directory

Hello there.
I used to get the "Can't save..." warning when my folders were not properly organized. If I'm correct the mapper should be able to read and write files directly in and from the game folders, and both the game and the mapper should reside in the same Blackisle folder. This is becouse of default settings. Try to move the mapper to the game folder, or tinker with the config file and point it to a custom path...
Make also sure that your game folder system has data/protos/critters folder, as long as unpacked data/data and data/ language/ english/ game folders with all the files inside, or you won't be able to write down the critter name and descriptions (if they're not present the mapper will crash when trying to look at /fight the critters).
Your habit of making backup copies is a good one, don't lose it.
Err... I do realize that my explanation is a bit discombobulated... I hope it will make sense.
Please let me know something.
See you.

Dear compatriot,

please don't try to attract attention by using ALL CAPS and name the threads descriptively.

Thank you in advance.

More and more problems.....

Well, i`ve placed the mapper in the C directory but it doesen`t worked.... Say that it can`t load cities.... I`ve placed the mapper back to the normal directory but it say the same advice.... After it doesen`t have sayed nothing, it simply open, get the secreen black, and after closed....
Anybody knows what it is?

Hi there. Do you have any patch/mod installed?
That's a problem that shows up when tinkering with cities.lst or similar files. What did you edit apart from critters?

You get that error when trying to use the mapper when you have certain mods. Get the mapper patchers from this site. You need the file which will patch the mapper and the game to handle more than the origianl number of locations.

Also, quit moving all the files around after you have installed the game and mapper. make sure the mapper.cfg file mentions the right location for your Fallout 2 game. Open up the mapper.cfg (and fallout2.cfg) file with notepad and make sure the mapper is looking for the game in the right location.

Patch

I`ve instaled the patch and set the correct fallout locations in the mapper cfg file.... Altrouth, i can`t modify any prototypes....

Do a search of this site or read the tutorials here. You need to create certain folders too. One called 'dev' which contains a 'proto' and so on. And make sure the protos aren't set to read only.
