Well i've played the beta a bit over the week end and i am really liking it - first i thought the strogg were unappealing but after trying them out :) i kinda only like to play strogg :D ...

now i'm not sure how many here like this type of game but back in the day :P i sure did play a lot of quake and i liked Enemy Territory too .. i like that the gameplay is still very quake-ish so its not very realistic but is fast and twitch based :P - but all of that is no good unless you coordinate with teammates :)

anyhow .. i am actually looking forward to this one :)
 
Man, I want fast internet. That game looks amazing, I've already got a poster for it on my wall.
 
looks entertaining & i might buy it, but i'm more partial to trying out Team Fortress 2 ASAP!
 
Actually, I'm very interested in QW, but It's a bit annoying that there isn't a stamina meter.

ID software games always quinch my FPS thirst. This may just replace BF2. Quake Wars is gonna fucking own!
 
TBH, the demo is a bit meh. It's very much like BF2142 which was pretty shitty, only it's easier to die. Color me unimpressed.
 
I like the demo. God dammit, nothing beats the satisfaction from shooting a Tormentor out of the sky that just passed overhead and blasted your mateys and watch as it spirals to the ground...

alas team fortress 2 will be a truly formidable exercise in style - and i will be there ... but that doesnt make ETQW any less nicer...

p.s. servers are a bit of amess now with the demo - there are a lot of people who dont know what to do - but that is changing slowly. i really hope this game gets established

I'm afraid this is very much untrue.

2142 is far superior to QW in so many ways.

  • Firstly you have got your stamina bar in 2142. You rarely see people bunnyhopping and just cut them down with MG fire anyway.

    Guns on QWs are absolutely rubbish. You have just as much chance of hitting someone if your running, staffing or down right bunnyhopping. On 2142 if you try firing a support gun whilst doing anything other than lying down or crouching you'll miss everything at range. The BF series has really good deviation settings.

    QWs has almost no tactical element. I know there are loads and loads of objectives but if you play on a public server and watch you'll see that non of the GDF even try to get the MCP to the checkpoint. Once its damaged you've got no chance!

    No VOIP. No squads. Both completely ruining any teamwork factor this game might have had.

So in conclusion I think this QWs is just like 2142 is pure BS.

I think id went wrong when they took the original Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer away from nerve software and gave it to Splash Damage.

Where nerve had taken the best parts of Fortress and refined them into something better, SD undid all of nerve's good work and started adding crap again, resulting in feature-bloat. And what we're left with is ET:QW.

I don't bother comparing ET:QW to Battlefield, as the only Battlefield title I've played was 1942, which was fun, but not a patch on the tight, squad based, objective-oriented play of RtCW for me. I'm sure the BF series has changed since then, but I've made it a point to boycott EA titles, so I wouldn't know.

I know why you dont like the combat but its : Quake Wars .. it has Quake in the name and the combat is very twitch/skill oriented - some people like this - its quake style combat and Wolf. Enemy Territory style combat.

There are good teams and there are people who try out the demo.

VOIP will be in the game. There are squads (try numpad enter for squad options) and squad leaders and waypoints and everything ! and it has a great (in my opinion) teamspeak and contextual messageing system. (not everybody has internets for VOIP or like the voices of 16 year olds)

I agree that there are a lot of weak players around now but its the demo - servers are packed with curious people .. give em a break - if i remember correctly when BF2 first came out anyone who was new and didnt know what to do was treated like shit ... some deserved it .. others didnt.

There were some awesome teams in the beta with both coordination and tactics. Look for clan or elite servers with the demo and if your lucky you can spectate a well run match.

i know its not everybodys cup of tea and .. well .. this has turned to some extent into a rant - and i apologize - but i do think it does a better job at simulating in a scaled down version a nice tactical narrative.

Battlefield is quite ok in my book and i played it but i prefer this for the same reasons i liked ETQW or Quake over counterstrike.

i also think that right now the hotness is with TF2 and QW

That's what I don't get. It's 2142 and humanity hasn't solved the problem of fatigue in a creative way. In QW I assume humans have fatigue-allevating implants/pharmaceutical treatment.

And Strogg are fucking cyborgs, cyborgs don't tire.

Bullshit. I play the demo a lot and can say that bunnyhopping will not get you anywhere. You lose ammunition, lose accuracy and combat effectiveness, while going prone and carefully aiming with the GPMG is far, far superior to the "run-n-gun" approach.

I tried to install the demo, but when I extracted the install it was all like "yo dawg, we gotta restart your comp and shit nigga" and I was like "whoa ok" and it did that and then when it restarted nothing happened. When I tried to do it again same bullshit. meh.
