Question about making new recruits available

Just bought the game, got a quick question...

I've been playing for a while, and I've noticed that I can't seem to get any recruits beyond Senior Squire. I've just beaten Quincy and become a Knight (rank 6), yet none of the recruits in the pool back at the base rank beyond Senior Squire.

Is this normal? Do I have to beat Mardin before I can get higher level recruits, or have I run into a bug (I'm playing the 1.27 patch)?

Never noticed it, I'm sure it will change as you progress. As far as I was concerned the pool of recruits wasn't too bad. Just get an idea what the mission is beforehand so you can pick recruits that may be useful.

New recruits come up as you go along, and when you deal with new encounters. By the end of the game you can recruit former mutants, deathclaws, ghouls, and I think raiders and reavers.

The higher your charisma the better your recruit pool. However, I think most of the players pick a squad and generally stick with them until the game ends. However some times its good to switch in and out. For example- when fighting mutants you are probably better off with heavy weapons and snipers. When fighting robots, probably energy weapons. People with medical, sneak, melee combat, repair- these skills can be dropped in and out. But normally it's worthwhile to know what to expect before you go in.
