what exactly is required to make fire gecko's use the fire weapon?

edit : reason i asked is that i made a small area mod,monsters are spawned when the played enters the map,i've made a small macro that choses a gecko depending on what level the player is,problem is that when a fire gecko is chosen,they don't use the fire weapon,tried some different ai packets,dont know why they don't use the weapon
 
I have no idea what is required, but posting to say that in all games, un-modded F2, RP and MM the Fire Geckos sometimes don't spit flames at all.

Often wondered myself and thought it might be distance, like too close or too far and they don't use it. Not so though. Definately they won't use fire too far away, but they will when right on the next hex. Maybe in the proto? or random? Maybe armor type you have?
 
You actually have to give the critter a flamebreath weapon, just like deathclows and robotic turrets actually have invisible weapons.
You can do it via script if you are spawning the critter via script when the PC enters your map the first time.
