I should have asked this back when it was first posted, but I didn't, and I've been wondering: how was this animation modeled

album_pic.php

What tools were used to make that, a modeling tool, drawing tool, or ? Is this now a complete FRM character for the MR mod? I'd love to try making a new animation, some tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hang on, I'll see what i can dig up. Sorry I cant comment on the status of this completed FRM ;)

*EDIT*

I would guese that Lisac uses Lightwave :)

I took this from NMA, I hope they won't mind :D
Anyway, I don't do it this way (like it's written here) in LIGHTWAVE, but I guess this will help him more, 'cause he uses 3DMAX. The angles are compatible, though.

3D-scene
1 - character
2 - camera ('Ortographic Projection' (3DMAX))
3 - a light source for creation of a shadow (set 'Cast Shadows', use 'Ray-Traced Shadows', set 'Check Decay' switch to None (3DMAX))
4 - an any light source (set 'Check Decay' switch to None (3DMAX))
5 - one-colour plane for create background colour and shadow of character on the image
a1 - angle of the camera (-25.7)
a2 - angle of a light source for a shadow (-75.7)
a3 - turning angle of the camera (-150, -90, -30, 30, 90, 150)

Lightwave huh, interesting thanks. A while ago corpse showed me an amazing gatling gun animation that was done using Lightwave. Lots of interesting stuff on that guy's site. Yes I have 3DSMax but I have a lot to learn about this tool. Check out the Character Studio for the new version of 3DSMax. They have some demo videos. Lightwave is quite expensive, here are some more affordable alternatives.

Alias MotionBuilder
Maya Personal Learning Edition There is a free download
Milkshape 3D can be had for $20

EDIT: I'm downloading the free Maya Personal Edition now (150MB). They have a gallery, and there is this clip about how Maya was used in the matrix, very cool! They have this 3D 101 tutorial which shows flash animations of various 3D operations.

I wish there was a tool that was designed specifically for making 2D sprites. The problem with these 3D modeling tools is that they are so complex. I don't want to make the matrix sentinels animations, just a simple character hehe

Holyyyy... I was digging around and found this post...
OK, you got the answer - I was using LW for making THE girl critter. It was hard to make it, but the result is... Well, I hope you'll see it soon yourself.
And yes, LW is expensive, but I use this version (5.5) for many years... No money to upgrade it.
Other tools=GIMP (Photoshop as alternative), FRM Animator 2.51...
