Okay, I'm on mission 5 and, as it turns out, I haven't chosen Gifted and I stupidly expected rifles to require their old FO's 1 and 2 STR requirements, which means my main character is super-duper SMG man (read: waste of squad space but un-take-out-able because of main-character-ority-ness). So, I'm stuck with a shitty main character who's basically going to sit around on his lazy ass and pick daisies until the PA arrives, a time MUCH later than in FO's 1 and 2, as I'm told. The only thing he's currently good for is picking stuff up and selling it with his high charisma, but his low strength means he can't pick up a lot.

Should I start over again? Missions are taking me about 1.5 hours apiece, with the hummer mission itself taking 3.

I don't want to take another 2 weekends on these missions, but if YOU think that my main character's ungiftedness and low strength which results in my loss of a secondary sniper/HG guy is the CAUSE of this large amount of time, tell me. I only wish they'd warned me about this #$&%ing new STR cost, the bastards... ugh.

hehe, first of all, gifted is the best perk to choose in the beginning. second of all, the hummer mission took you 3 hours? is this the mission where you first get the hummer? If you had a couple good gunners with aks and a good driver, the hummer mission should only take you about an hour at the most. what mission are you on now? the one where you got to go to a vault?

Stick with it!

I made the same mistake you did ... tried to make a weak, sickly sniper. 4 ST isn't cutting it and looking at the guns you can choose from in multiplayer, 4 ST will *never* cut it.
However, I am having a ball using my main character as an expert pistol shot - having him sneak up on enemies and put bullets through their brains before they know what's happening. With the high rate of fire pistols have this is even more fun. Use your aimed shots. (PLEASE tell me you're not *another* Gifted/Fast Shot guy ...)
I'm mostly pushing for you to stick with it because I hate to think that every main character in this game is going to end up exactly the same.
I, too, was disappointed at first that I couldn't use rifles. I do want to use them eventually so I'm holding out until level 12 when I plan on picking up Weapon Handling.
No one else I've seen on this board went with high Charisma. I took a 3 because I liked the Loner perk; otherwise I might've made it higher. I think it's very cool that you have a charismatic character. You can take the Leader perk and surround yourself with ultra-efficient bodyguards (all very well equipped with your high bartering ability).
Of course, if you just want to be super-tough, by all means start over and make the same character as everybody else ...

Hoping you'll do the right thing
