of course it's unarmed !
take brass knuckle for instance, it's recognized as unarmed since the fighting style does not change before and after wearing it (punch with fist.. duh), now, if you add spikes on the knuckle, it's still unarmed, if you alter it so it's on the back of your hand it's still unarmed, as long as it doesn't have a reach distance beyond your own body length, it's unarmed
like I said, if your attacking style remain the same, then obviously it's still unarmed
take power gloves, even if you wear it your attack will remain punch and more punch
now if you use a blade or some sort that extend the length of your body, then obviously the way you attack will be different to make use of the weapon (whatever way you choose to attach it to your body), therefore it becomes melee and not unarmed anymore
