So the game doesn't completely adhere to the fallout universe. So what? Look past that for a moment. The game is fun, the story is decent, and the art is high quality. Yes, there are a number of bugs (first release FO2 was pretty buggy as you may recall) not to mention some *serious* game balance issues in multiplayer, but overall this baby is a great game. All this game needs is a little spit and polish and it could be a classic.

I know bugs are frustrating, and my sympathy goes out to those of you that can't even run the game without crashing. I myself can't seem to make a multiplayer character without experiencing a lockup. *If* the game works for you though, then you have nothing to complain about. No, this isn't Fallout. It's something else. Judge the game for what it is, not for what it isn't, and quit your whining already.

The story is cheesy to an extreme and laughable. Someone was on some serious prescriptions when they just saw the name of the BoS and decided to make this...game.

Fallout-wise, it's not Fallout.
Tactical-wise, it's lame. The ONLY thing it has going for it is multiplayer. The rest has been done before and has been done better.

Was Daikatana any better? And yet it's rather regarded as the red-headed step-child of the FPS genre because it was touted as something then fell flat on it's face. Tactical veterans for the most part, who have played numerous tactical games in the past, are scratching their heads at this little number. It truly is weak compared to the likes of JA2 (JA2 had actual *characters*), and lacks even a remote part of progression that X-Com featured. The only thing this game has is mindless positioning of the characters so they can shoot the hell out of the opposition. True, I suppose that makes it 'tactical', but as a game it's measured by it's peers. In which, it's very, very bland.

It's only schtick is that it bears the Fallout name.

We *are* judging it for what it is. Which is an erroniously-titled weak tactics game.

I'll also warn people again not to go ad hominem here as well.

Try Arcanum, by those who brought you the first Fallout:

You should probably spend less time talking and more time actually saying something. First of all, no, the story is not any more cheesy than the stories of Fallout 1 and 2. Cheese is part of the art deco, retro-tech Fallout genre. I mean, come on, giant scorpions? The whole "atomic age" thing is the height of camp. So, on that count... you're wrong and you're a hypocrite.

Your refering to it as "lame" is just a poorly informed and heavily biased opinion. It is apparent in your emotional language that you're just dismissing the game. Fortunately you have every right to be ignorant if you so choose. I'm not going to try to convince you that the game is good... since you've obviously made up your mind on the matter. I would be more than happy, however, to demonstrate to everyone else that *you* have made the choice to be ignorant and are unwilling to be otherwise.

Speaking as a former professional game reviewer, I can assure you that, yes, Daikatana sucked ass. It had bad level design (Blocky architecture, jutting brushes, misaligned and repetitive textures), poorly balanced weapons, buggy code (which was never completely fixed). It came in over budget and the tech was two years too old for the time it was released. The gameplay was poorly concieved (combat in front of loading zones? Bad idea.), the enemies were boring (cyber-mosquitos?) and it, rightly, went right to the bargain bin. Comparing that piece of crap to Fallout Tactics is just plain insulting. Hell, next to Daikatana, even Deer Hunter looks good.

I've played JA* and XCOM* and, in my *professional* opnion, Tactics is a good game, albeit in need of a little tweaking. Why you're so bitter about FOT is beyond me. Do me a favor: Ask yourself why it means so much to you that you *must* bash the game. Myself, I feel the developers, especially in light of what they've recently gone through, deserve to be recognized for their *good* work. They sure as hell don't deserve to be bashed by someone who is unwilling to see the game for what it is.

"This isn't Fallout, it's something else"
That is, as it seems to me the biggest problem. Because it bears the Fallout name so we can expect it to be Fallout. I agree that you can not compare it to the RPG's because it is not but that alone should not be the excuse that is always used. If it is not Fallout then it should not have the name. If they would have given it another name then people would have probably said that "it looked like Fallout". And then we might not have these discussions. It is Fallout not anything else.

Here we go, another flame war...

Why must you all fall to the level of personal insults ("It's quite obvious you sound stupid, so you don't know what you are talking about")?!

Less emotions, more arguements.

Seriously though, think about how much time a day you spend complaining about this game. I'm hard pressed to find a topic on this board that doesn't have a post by you under it, complaining about the same things you've complained about in your 50,000 other posts. Relax a little, the game is out, and nothing you do will make them take it back. I'm sure they've already heard your complaints too, judging by how you're in the game...

Does it cost the Brotherhood $750 each time they train the tribal militia?

Did they make Ira work for free just so you'll take her along and let her annoy the hell out of you with, "You've got muh eeyaah"?

Err... wait a minute, which forum is this again?

People like you who have a problem with people expressing their opinions don't deserve to breathe. Piss the fuck off... make your own forum where people can't have an opinion other than yours.
