Now, I've had a grudge against the Rainbow six series for a long time, due to a relatively poor AI and graphics engine. But rainbow six 3 is one very good game. Despite a few AI bugs that either make your squad go tarded or make enemies not see you (these bugs are rare though) it's very enjoyable. The planning is easier for newbs such as myself, and it has become more FPS-like, as aiming and weapons are much nicer. You also have more command options for your team. This was the PC version.
The Xbox version is different, but just as good, if not better. It's much much more streamlined and consolized, but that's actually a good thing. You only have to worry about one team now, comprised of 4 members including yourself. These guys are smart, too. They make good use of cover around them, and peek around corners. Think Full spectrum warrior, but as an FPS. With a simple interface, you can tell them to breach doors, flashbang a room,... You can even choose to make them do it on "zulu", which means they do it as soon as you press the white button, giving you good time to take position (that way, you can also rush through a second door leading to the same room). The game has great action, and is a nice change from all that hour-long planning.
I only have two major gripes with the game; the inability to modify the equipment of your squad before the mission, and imprecise controls that make it difficult to aim.
Overall though, I really recommend the game on both platforms, as it's very different on each one. I might get Ghost recon next, probably for the Xbox (I hear the PC version has major AI flaws).
*EDIT* Of course, these games are major US capitalist propaganda (Tom Clancy!) but unless you get frustrated or turned off by the abominable horrors you contribute to in the game, it doesn't really matter.
