Rainbow Six: Vegas

I got it today and have been trying it out a bit and it looks like it's pretty good, actually. Of course, it's nowhere near as good as Raven Shield but it's still a million times better than that utter excrement Lockdown...

That is... If you don't treat it as a real tactical shooter. Leaning has been removed and replaced with the controversial third person view which works pretty well and is an interesting addition in single player but it completely rapes any semblance of realism, especially in versus multiplayer. The graphics are okay but the game is a laggy resource hog of dismal proportions previously seen only in Splinter Cell: Double Agent with which it shares another huge annoyance; that's right kiddies, no SM3.0 graphic card, no Vegas for you. And in some bigger firefights with a lot of opponents and with all manner of shit exploding and flying around the framerate grinds down to unacceptable levels.

As a shooter with tactical elements it works pretty well, the AI is good and unforgiving. The maps are huge and load relatively fast. Another controversial addition is the lack of a health bar (or the famous Rainbow Six health dot) and gimping which have been replaced with a system in which after you take a few shots the screen blurs and you have to take cover where you gradually heal. The jury is still out on that one.

In conclusion, in spite all of it's shortcomings it's still fun as hell to play, it just isn't the Rainbow Six I've grown to love.

A solid 3.5/5

so the AI is good? strange since last i saw there were endless amounts of terrorists standing up straight on rooftops firing there guns as if no one could see them...

no one is claiming terrorists are smart, but some basic sense of minimal selfpreservation is welcomed. also the will to live until the mission is fulfilled would be nice...

Well. I only played the singleplayer demo on xbox360 and it was decent. It's an action game though but it has nice cooperative potential. Might buy it someday...

Minimal selfpreservation indeed! If you are going to stand out in the open shooting your gun, at least wear a LIFE JACKET as protection...

Ok. I've played it for 5 hours two days ago, coop mod with a friend. Now, seriously, how come that this game is said to have beautiful graphics ? Some maps DO look ok, but some other look like a big puddle of puke shat on by a thousand donkeys. How come that nobody underlines it and gives it a "graphics : 9/10" everytime ? Anybody who has played Gears of War or even Splinter Cell Double Agent ( both use Unreal Engine 3 ) knows that Rainbow Six looks like shit. As for the game itself, it gets boring real fast. If you have played the demo, then do not expect anything more. It doesn't exactly suck but it is not great at all. 6/10.

I had a look at this game, and I still couldn't bring myself to buy it after the last game, Lockdown. It looks OK, but that is it... I hate it how reviewers give these games such high rankings etc, even though the game itself is so bullshit.

Now DON'T get me started on Need for Speed: Carbon. What a fucking waste. Most reviews stated that the game took well over 10 hours to complete. 10 hours? I finished it with 100% completion in about 5-6. That is ridiculous. The graphics? Pfft, if you could see the fucking detail on default brightness settings you may come to some conclusion.

Argh, I'll stick with Fallout for a few more years :D
