random crashes in Canyon city

Hi,
I've recently reinstalled fot (patched to 1.27)and started a new tough guy session,having no problems whatsoever until now :in Canyon city on different occasions (the last time it occurred when an encoumbered Babs had just reached the party at the extraction point :( ) the game keeps crashing for no apparent reason.
I always had this problem (game crashed randomly during the last missions) , even with my previous( now outdated )comp ,so I guess it must be a bug .

Can you suggest a workaround ?Thanks for any help.
 
The map has 961 overlapping tiles, some people will tell you that overlapping tiles don't really affect the game much. Maybe slow it down a little but whenever the game has crashed for apparently no reason, for me, it's usually in an area where floor tiles are overlapping especially in TG mode. There's not a lot you can do about it other than rebuild the map without any overlapping tiles. Someone on the old interplay boards did start such a project but I don't know if they got to mission 21, they might hang round the winterwind or ashford city forums.

Otherwise if you really don't want to keep replaying the mission and are desperate to finish the campaign you can make the map so that it will save in tough guy mode, just open it up in the level editor and press F7. Then tick the option 'is bunker' and save your changes.
 
Thanks,I suspected it could be something like that... I'm not really at ease with the editor (can't seem to find the mission file :oops: ),so I think I'll do it the hard way :evil: ...

Anyway,why does it happen only in the last missions ,I wonder :?
 
To find the mission file, go open then go up one folder then it's

campaigns\missions\core\mission_21

As to why it happens more in later missions, I guess it's the way they were constructed, I suppose it depends on who put which map together. Though it does happen sometimes in the earlier missions, IIRC there's a spot in the forth mission near the second set of gates that'll crash the game if you step on it.
