Random encounter - cannot exit

I've patched the game. Still, I have problems with the game. After playing for a few hours, the game tends to slow down, and I get that message about needing more virtual memory. But that's a fairly tolerable problem, since if I restart every once in a while, it goes back to normal. What's annoying is that I have come across 2 random encounters (the Bazaar, and the Grimm Bros) which I was able to enter and exit once, but not the second time. I move all the characters onto the green area, but nothing happens. In the other random encounter I've come across(the Hermit) I can come and go as I please. Incidentally, I have a new laptop, with a 1.7 gig processor and plently of RAM. I'm running Windows XP. Any thoughts on fixing the problem?
 
Its a bug in the game. I've been told theres no fix. Not all randome encounters are affected.
