Raspberry Pi?

The DICKtator
Seeing how the HDMI cord was laying across the entire room i decided to look for another way to watch movies/series on the TV and this was suggested for me. A decent USB would be enough to transfer whatever i would be watching and it was kinda cheap.

The problem is that it seems to be quite a few modells and i'm not sure if there is a big difference and wich one i should pick?

Any tip would be appreciated.

I'm curious myself. I've been wanting one of these things for some time now. I considered making a HTPC and emulator box out of it.

First i was told to get something called Chromecast. More of a streaming thing but it was not expensive. This thing will cost slightly more i guess but with a USB i don't need to think of anything els :)

I use Chromecast it works well for Netflix and Hulu. You plug it into the TV and then you can play Netflix or whatever on your tablet/phone and throw it to Chromecast and then your tv is acting as the screen while you are using the tablet/phone.

My internet sucks too much for that. I just want a mini computer that can so simple shit.

I prefer USB over streaming :)

Did a quick comparison myself as there seems to be no one who knew/cared enough. The newest one is almost as cheap as the previous version but slightly faster and compared to the older version it is the number of USB and what kind of storage it can use. The 2 newest ones can use micro sd cards etc.

Looks like i will get a 2 or a 3 depending on what i find the fastest/cheapest.

So what exactly are you going to do with it? (asking since you didn't specify in your original post).

Play media directly from it using the USB. If i wanted streaming i would get a Chromecast it seems.

Well, i have not yet had a raspberry pi, but from what i understand it runs a debian linux variant called rasbian (and some other arm based ones like xbian etc), i saw something about windows 10 mobile version, but have no idea how good that works. You will have to put one of them (the operating system of your choice) on the sd card yourself, but i think windows has the tools to make it an easy process. In any case, you can install vlc on it, but i'm not sure if it comes with codecs for all the major video formats. Some of them also have this Kodi program:

Here is how it looks:

Your best bet would probably be to get the 3d model, as it is a pretty good improvement over the 2nd one in terms of performance, but it can get a little bit warm from what i heard:
