Recording from speakers

Hi everyone. This is my first thread. I just wanted to ask anyonw who knows if it's possible to record sound from the speakers without using the microphone (i.e record internally in the PC). I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard and Win XP.

Thank you, Baboon

Supposedly "Silent Bob" will record anything going out through your sound card and turn it into a .wav file, but I could never get it to work for me. Unfortunately that's the only utility I know of that does something like that.

Edited for clarity. Baboon, it might help if you gave a specific example of what exactly you're trying to record.

You're gonna need a microphone. I record music to my computer all the time and edit it with programs like Acid Pro and stuff, but I use high quality studio mics and then that connects to a mixer, and then that connects to my pc.

I record by using a DAT recorder, then burning it to cd, then ripping material to MP3 or wma.

*edit* I also use expensive equipment, and edit before burning to cd.

Well, I got my hands on this text-to-speech program (yes, they actually say what you type. Isn't that amazing? :o ) and since I suck at voice acting, I thought it could be useful for future mods. Also, and more importantly, I want to send pranks to my friends.

Silent Bob should do the trick then, though you might have to edit the file a little afterwards. For another option, AnalogX has a text-to-speech program that can save the output as a .wav automatically, and you can mess around with the settings a little to get anything from a Kraftwerk voice to a chipmunk on speed.
