Recording gameplay video

Hi,

I'm looking to get some clips of my mod up on YouTube, to showcase the changes etc etc.

However, for me, running Fallout in Dx9 mode is PAINFULLY slow, the lag is ridiculous. It "feels" (regardless of claimed FPS) like the game is running at about 10 fps.

Ideas? Makes recording very frustrating :(

Hmmm, looks like dropping FRAPS' recording FPS to 29.97, and setting my ATI gfx settings to "Optimal Performance" definitely helps.

Well, as long as this thread still exists, is there any good recording software out there for free that isn't a trial version?

You're always going to experience some slow-down when recording. Nature of the beast, unfortunately.

I've been using the free version of Debut video capture from NCH software. It's free (so long as you don't mind it nagging you every so often about buying the "professional" version).

Good quality, though set up can be a bit confusing, and recording the audio is a hassle.

Install the software, then run the program, which will then download and install the program you want.

FRAPS is pretty good but the free can only record 30-second segments of video, which I assume is what you were referencing.
