Repack Master.dat FO1

First time out of the vault
Morning all... I have been browsing the forum for a bit trying to figure out how to repack my Master.dat file sans art/cuts. What I am trying to do is get FO1 running on ADosBox, but so far I crashes to dos after the initial loading screen, right before the gold spinning globe video plays...

It is my hope (emphasis on hope) that I can circumvent this crash simply by removing the movie files, which I have done, but for the life of me I cannot repack the dat file... I have tried using the KA Dat Packer, but the closest I can get is creating a dat file with the pack.exe and the dos4gw file in it. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction on this one, and sorry if this is a noob question.

Or if anyone knows of any other way to bypass the movie files...

It is greatly appreciated.

iirc, you don't need to repack it at all.

Unpack the .DAT, so everything is now in \Data\

Delete the movies, or maybe replace with 0 bit txt with the extension changed (if deleting the movie gives error when trying to play).

Open your fallout.cfg file, and under [system] you'll see critter_dat and master_dat, set both to data and you shouldn't need to re-pack anything.

Back when Fallout came out, we used to do this to speed up the game loading. Yea, I feel old.

I appreciate the help Agris. But no joy.... could be I'm a total patzer at this, but I'm getting a "cannot find master data file" error when I run fallout. Seems it needs an actual file format and not a directory. I'm going to use your dummy file method with the master data file and see if my luck improves.

EDIT- That didn't seem to work either... I suppose no one else has had any luck getting fallout to work on adosbox?

Humm.. i know for a damn fact that we used to unpack the .dat and play the game. Maybe isolate the files in a folder called whatever.dat? I'm sorry I can't be more specific, this is pulling from experience over 13 years old.
