First time out of the vault
Hi, thanks for reading!
Basically, I have some broad goals in this mod I'm making, and I was hoping if you - as more experienced mod-makers - could clue me into the best tools to use, mistakes to avoid, simplest methods possible, etc., etc.
These broad goals are as follows:
1) To replace every desination/city in the game with, if not an entirely different map and content, then at least with different dialogues and items and slight environmental alterations.
2) To tweak every "random encounter" possible to better fit the atmosphere of my own story, which is still post-Apocalyptic but not post-nuclear. ("No Mutants Allowed" in my mod. )
3) To alter the terrain of the entire game-world in this way only: that there is not the feel of a desert but rather of a wildnerness. By this I mean merely that I would like to turn the "sandy ground" into something marginally more green, and set down forests of a sort in some areas.
4) To create an almost entirely new system of quests and dialogue. The one exception that I can think of right now is the Cave Trial in the beginning of the game - this can be kept, but the dialogue/enemies/weapons/architecture would need to be changed. This is pending on whether it would make it any easier for me if I preserved it, though, for the purposes of compliance with pre-existing, hard-coded script.
To conclude, I'd like to clarify by stating that I do not wish to change the graphics, statistics, or system of the game - rather, my goal is to adapt the setting, dialogue, and quests to a different story. Everything else can be neglected.
I'm entirely new to modding, and I've read over a number of threads and done a fair amount of searching before posting this. I found a number of valuable threads which I'll continue to refer to, but I thought it would be a good idea to post my own message and sees what turns up that I may not have been able to find myself. I have a good idea of what program to use, and have downloaded every single utility from a Polish "mod center". Just remains for me to hear the opinions of others before I begin - just to be safe, you know?
Thanks again, and I appreciate your time in having read my request.
