Rescue Torr, Kids w/ Grenades

dramisphere

First time out of the vault
I was just starting to play Fallout 2 again and I noticed some odd things in Klamath.

First off, I discovered a quest I hadn't known about before. If you take the Dunton's job to steal the brahmins, scare Torr away, and then kill the brahmins, Torr's mom will tell you he's lost and ask you to find him. He ends up to the west where the robot is. I hadn't known about this and I hadn't read it in any FAQ so I figured it might be worth mentioning in case no one knows about it.

Also, I wanted to kill the Duntons to get their spiked knuckles. Finding that I couldn't kill them in their home without kids attacking me, I tried to kill them in the bar. While I was doing this, the bar customers left me alone, but a kid still came in to try to kill me. But this is where it got weird. The kid somehow had a grenade and threw it at me, burning the Duntons alive and injuring everyone else in the bar. Then the bar customers started to chase the kid and killed him, then they started fighting the rest of the town. Like a dozen people died before this was over, and since I never hurt the kid, no one was hostile towards me afterwards. This was one of the coolest things I've seen happen in Fallout.

Rescue Torr.

If you told Torr to leave his brahmin earlier, now's the time to make up for it! Go to Ardin Buckner and it turns out Torr is missing because he went to look for the brahmin. Finger the Duntons and offer to help. Then go to the canyon area to the northeast. Torr is standing about near a mad robot. Kill the bot using hit and run tactics, scout the area (intriguing!), talk to Torr and then return to town (200 xp) and talk to Ardin again. As a reward, ask for Sulik's freedom (which is worth $350, plus you get 500 xp; also see the note for quest 2). If you ask for money, or if Sulik was free already, you'll get a measly $100 and substantially less karma.

Yah, one of the kids in kamath had a molatov cocktail, and I believe another one has a frag grenade.

I vaguely recall that you can kill them if you use Lockpicks to lock their house's door before you fight, and only unlock it after you end combat.

So I wasn't going goddamn crazy! The first time I played it I somehow got into combat by accident and someone blew me up. Now I realise those little bastards have a molotov and a frag I know why. Never thought of it...then again why would I? :P

Well they have them so you can steal them. Most people wont care if you try to steal from them in klamath (Klamath is like a stockup town) children just run away for a bit when you try. Trying to steal from trapper will get your ass handed to you, and those kids are hell when trying to kill anything near them.

Do you talk to torr first to help him with the brahmins?

Are you by any chance using the 1.05 patch?

Yes....is that the problem?? When i try to complete the Book quest the game crashes :S

i don't want to seem ungrateful but can't anybody mix all patches in one? Like yesterday i've installed 4 patches or more..like patch 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, 1.05, children patch and others...and in various ocasions the patch0000.dat file was overwritted, i don't know if it's meant to be that way but if the file from the patch 1.05 overwritte the file from patch 1.04 will overwritte the bug fixes from 1.04 and erase them...

Why don't somebody mix all the necessary patches? (i'm not that person because i'm no coder...i'm just fan..)

Sorry for my english :x and blast those mutants!

Well first off, you don't need to install 1.03, 1.04, and 1.05 all at the same time. 1.05 should include all previous fixes by Celestial in his other 2 patches. Also, depending on what type of patch it is (dat file or the files extracted from the dat) you cannot usually just combine them all as things will get overwritten.

I feel that Celestial's patch has too many problems associated with it which is why I have created my own. My patch has over 100 bug fixes in it and pretty much has fixed every known (and fixable with the source) bug in Fallout 2.

Yes, as Killap said, and it also means that you shouldn't ask about gameplay problems in this forum, since you're playing a modded game.

Sorry about my wrong section questions... i'm new and i don't have figured things well yet.

So killap your patch is better than the all the official patches? Where i can find that??

There is only 1 official patch out there and my patch tries to continue where the original developers left off. As for whether mine is better than the 1.05 patch, I would say yeah for numerous reasons. 1. It fixes a TON more bugs. 2. It does not break the game maps like what happened in Celestial's patch and 3. my patch does not alter the game to my opinion. (ie change object around that should not be changed, etc) My patch is strictly for bug fixes.

Head over here to read about my patch.
